thanks Gam, I dont trust Overclockers as ive heard a lot of bad feedback from them but I'l see if i can get the case elsewhere. decent case for a great price.

    thanks.

Ive been reading some reviews & aparently i can only get a 15% overclock on air?????

it will only hit ~4Ghz+ if under water.

will definitely have a good look at this AMD setup. cheers :toast:

Most people are hitting 3.8-4ghz on air like I said before. If you were on water.. Who knows, AMD hit 6.5ghz on LN2 lol

Q9550 will hit 4ghz on air, and it is still better than Phenom II. If you find a great deal on a 940 BE then go for it, otherwise it's poo.

thanks binge but i heard Q9550's are limited by their their low multipler or something so the 'best' it can really hit is 3.8Ghz

Shadowfold, whats the difference between that AMD GX mobo & a 'FX' version??

GX has onboard video and FX doesn't. Also the GX uses less power resulting in smaller mainboards. Also GX does 8x+8x 2.0 crossfire and 790GX does 16+16+8+8 2.0. Either way you go, you will get a good clocker :toast: 940 has an unlocked multiplier so keep that in mind.
    FreedomEclipse says thanks.

That's complete bullsh*t. I had mine at 4.0ghz easy. The Q9650 is only 1x multi higher and there are 4.8-5.2ghz clocks that have been done on water.

You're right. That's a "BE" chip. It has the same manufacturer code.

    ::EDIT::

I say get a dual core like an e8400 or e8500 E0 and good P45 or X48 board. I dont know if you really need a quad if you are just gaming and overclocking. Only go for a quad if you plan on using this system for a long time and want to be futureproof.

Not yet at least. 940 and 920 are the only released, they don't support DDR3 but the 910, 945, 925, 950 will.

yea, i hear ya man. a lot of us here are hardware nuts but most of us obviously cant have the latest and greatest all the time. Though I personally like to upgrade in 1.5 to 2 year cycles, i dont think i can wait 3 years, lol

well it depends how far behind my system is when running games n stuff. my current machine has aged pretty well anyway, but im a sucker for eye candy - If i cant run games at even close to full settings, then it makes me a very very sad panda. - If the new build is still running great in 2years time i dont see why not to just upgrade the graphics & keep everything else.

speaking of which my rig can still play a mean CoD4/5 but I can see that its 'heart' just aint in it anymore. with the added fact that I recently upgraded my crappy 1280x1024 19" monitor to a 22" running 1680x1050native which really hurts this beast. thats why i wanted to get this shit sorted out while im out of work. because when i start working again I wont really have the time to sit around for hours trying to find the highest overclock my hardware can do,

I'l probably take a week out after my contract termination to build & play around with my new build before getting back on the job front. I already got a few friends that are seeing if they got a spot for me some place so its all good.

Maybe you should get a 780a and get another 8800GTS some time?
