What could be the cause of a fizzing noise coming from my pump/bay res when it gets warm, not hot?
The system is free of air except for the res which has a layer of foam/bubbles on top. The coolant in the loop is a dark red as it should be but the layer of foam on top of the res is pink.

It seems to me that the problem is caused in the res by the pump inlet which is at the top, as it pulls the water in it causes a swirling on top of the res which mixes air and makes the foam. I tried squeezing a bit more coolant in the res to makes sure the inlet is adequately covered but it has not helped.

Temps are ok.

In my experience there is still a little bit air in the pump..

Thanks for reply. I have tried changing the position of the pump\res to work any air out. I think I'm going to buy a tube res from EK if I can find one without a pump. It's hard to find a tube res that doesn't come as a pump\res combo in the UK (for D5 pump). I can't see any other way around this problem.

That does sound like you have air getting into your pump. That's why I like to use a tube res mounted directly above the pump with the pump at the bottom of the case.

In any case, a tube res should resolve your problem.

fizzing? I would recommend distilled water in your loop rather than fanta for sure.
as already said height of pump/res..

A few things that come to mind:

What brand of pump and reservoir is this?
Did it come with foam or an anti-syphon plate for the res?
Is the pump speed variable?

Possibly color additive is causing air entrapment in the fluid. I've had issues with it in the past and will only use distilled water from now on. Function over color!

My situation is a bit unusual, my set up temporary.
I have a XSPC duel bay res with a D5 vario (variable speed) sat in the bottom of my case. So the pump and res are at the lowest point in the loop. The res has no foam or anti-syphon plate.
I was a little unclear in a earlier post when I said I had tried changing the position of the pump/res, what I meant to say, is that I tilted it in different directions for a few minutes at a time to try and work any air out.

I use a pre mix by Mayhems. I must admit it does sound like a can of Fanta. I would have no qualms with using just distilled water.

This is so frustrating, I can not understand what is going on. It looks to me like the inlet is too high in the res but I doubt that XSPC would have designed it with such a flaw. And I would have thought that the bay res would have some kind of anti-syphon design incorporated. Maybe I should try and stuff a small piece of foam in there lol.

I have turned the pump speed down and the noise has stopped. Also the little bit of foam that was forming on top has disappeared. I don't know if this gives any of you guys any indication as to what mite be going on. I will keep an eye on temps tonight. Hopefully this pump speed (new setting. 2500 rpm, down from 4500 rpm) will be enough to keep everything cool.
