I'm buying a 939 board right now just for that chip! I always wanted to see what an FX would do! hahaha

Nah, I am outscoring it in benchmarks with my 3800+. I wanted one for a while, but I couldn't beat the price of the 3800+, now I am glad I didn't buy it.

true true, guess its time to see what DFI can do for me with the new FX55 :)

Not even for the performance, just to finally see a FX chip... :toast:

POINTLESS????

lol

how many games can you list that a dual core is needed???

He's saying it's pointless because you can get a dual core (Opty 165 for example) for not much more than that. Not because there are a lot of games that need a dual core, but (atleast IMO) the benefits of having a dual core is worth the extra $30-$40 or so.

Although I wouldn't mind having a go with that FX-55, even though my Opty 146 already runs 3ghz.

Right now, I don't see any reason to go with a dual core for a "GAMING RIG"... if you upgrade like most of us do.

My single core lets me kick ass in all the games I play, at 3ghz.

Multithreading games on windows is a biatch.

However, blizzard released a multithreaded WoW patch.... for os x..

Now wheres the windows one?

Yup...and the change over for that won't happen over night either....so, as a gamer, why buy something that won't really help you..I use to have a 3800x2 and, in games, it sucked compaired to this 64 3200+ i have now...money for nothing right now..maybe for the future it will be good....but what will that 3800x2 really be when games need dualcores....i'd bet by then it would be very low end.....when it becomes a must to have, the newer stuff out will kill todays dualcore for sure....

Because multithreading is not only a pain in the butt to do, but not even all that useful!

Direct X/OGL multithreading on windows is a PAIN. Ever look into it? I did.. for a while..

Unix... you'll find many more unix apps capable of multi-threaded operation.

3800x2 low end when games take advantage of it??? wtf i dnt think so, taking into consideration the way video encoding utilises dual core if games do the same then i dont see a 3800x2 being lowend, i have cut my encoding times in half with my dual core and thats at stock speeds, this is unless you dont think games will utilise dual core for 3-4 more years in which case it will be considered low end at everything anyway, but a 3800x2 would be sweet for any game on the market now if they utilised both cores correctly. thats my 2cents

Definately get that proccie. Even though I just got me an X23800+ Im gonna wind up getting one of those for a media server or another gaming system. Just because its cheap. Have fun and let us know how it performs

i wasnt saying 3-4 years...but, yes, by the time a majority of games use dualcores to the fullest the early dualcores will be lowend...i have no doubt that with encoding you see increases in performance, and with many other apps...but i was just speaking of gaming, thats what i do most.....

my point is --for a gamer to spend vast amounts of money on dualcore is kinda pointless...by the time games really use dualcores effectly, dualcores will have come along way....alot changes in 2 years...so why have more then you will use right now, spend that much for it, then have some cheaper single core run circles around it....

um why have more than you use right now what about quad sli, quad core, etc etc the whole point is because thats the "new technology" and by the time dual cores are fully utilised a lot of people and a lot of people on here will have quad core (because thats the "future" )which will be like all the people who bought dual core when it was made mainstream,

i also think (and hope) 2007 will see quite a few games releases that will utilise dual cores and i dont think 3800x2 will be considered low end (and if thats the case where does that leave single core ? dead in the water with a new mobo, memory and cpu upgrade needed) as it will whoop any single core thats what i meant. also you say that a single core would run rings around it, where ? where does this happen apart from gaming, granted a lot of single cores do perform somewhat? better than dual cores in games, but thats where it ends and i dont think you could say it runs rings around it as the performance difference isnt huge and is more graphics card dependant

take it easy....its just an opinion....non the less...yes some single cores perform better then dual cores in gaming....again I AM T A L K I N G about G A M I N G...you really should read all that i have said again, cause i think you are missing my point...all i do is game, and no one can argue that dualcore isnt doing much more for games yet....

wow lol i never been told to calm down on here, could you see the stress vains pumping in my head lol im cool and yes i read your post as you would know if you read thru mine properley. I simply stated that single cores have very little performance increase in games over dual cores thats all. and thats is fact :)

edit: and yes i know this from previousley having a 3400+ single core
