I am looking for a free (freeware) program that will back up and restore a hard drive. I'm looking to clone a few external hard drives. If the program will backup the used space instead of the whole drive this will be awesome! Thanks for any suggestions.

Obviously you're looking for something besides your Xp Pro utility that does this?

There is a free promo (full copy) for NTI Shadow. I haven't tried it myself, but it says its award winning. The promo is good till the 8th.

Try "BootIt Ng" a little dos disk (floppy&CD) program which is able to make images of harddrives.

You are correct regarding backing up an entire Hdd, but if you read his initial post he was only looking to back up used space which the free version would do.
