I can't seem to get the taskbar to be transparent-ish, it seems to be a static bluish-gray color. Help?!

Also when I scroll over the program tabs it just gives me the title bar name, not a picture of the window.

This and this

I ended up having to reinstall XP ( :banghead::banghead: ) because Server 2008 R2 wouldn't work with the wireless adapter for my Zotac mobo (drivers installed, but wouldn't connect for more than about 5 minutes at a time, required reboot each time to reconnect). Really sucks, was looking forward to a 7-ish setup

Hmm, good information Ion! That's good to know, as I was thinking about installing this system on my laptop that is running wireless.

It should work with other wireless cards, it just doesn't like mine (which is weird, it worked in Win2008 Standard and Vista, as well as XP). Maybe the 7/2008R2 drivers just haven't matured enough yet?

No better than 7, but it is an option for those of us who don't already have 7

I tired that already, and it wasn't working.

I figured it out, turns out I forgot to install my video card driver. Opps!

People who have had trouble with wireless probably did not install that feature:

Is that supposed to be that you are having issues or not?
I just installed steam and am in the process of installing Garry's Mod on it.
Currently on Mint, so I can't see if it is up and running atm.

Steam works great on Windows 7. No problems whatsoever.

Im wondering whether to use:

Server 2008 R2 64bit
or
Win 7 Premium 64bit.

If i use server, i save £45.

It is much different from Win7, feature wise? Or is it the same?

Yeah. Just remembered I have it on my desktop ready to go

@MoonPig, Server 2008 is pretty much just like Vista with utilities, but more server oriented (of course).
I personally would get Server 08 and see if you can make it into a workstation.
Also, I found that a lot of things that needed second hand access to the internet (i.e Steam) wouldn't run,
even when added to the exceptions list.
Win 7 would be the better way to go, imo.

I would say absolutely use Server 2008R2, it has almost the same features as Win7 (with desktop experience installed), and then you could spend the 45 pounds on hardware.

Steam works, you just have to disable the darn built in blocker or whatnot. I have been playing on Steam just fine! IT WILL WORK TRUST ME!

Currently on Mint, so I can't see if it is up and running atm.

Part of the time it runs fine, but other times it locks up! Of course I am running the 7100 build, so that may be the issue. Once the final version is released, yay less than a month away, I will know for sure. This is about the only issue that I have ever had with W7 so far!
