It needs to be formatted as a boot partition so it has a boot flag(google this), then you copy the contents of Hiren's to the USB drive.
I should already have a boot flag inside the usb...syslinux.cfg...is that ok? It's been placed with the installation of memtest...

I've tried...in my bios you can select how to see the usb drive...the funny thing is that he can see the drive, I can select how to emulate it (cd/floppy/hdd) but then it just not appear into the boot list...

I had a MSI 975X Platinum Power Up board with a Core 2 Duo E6600 and it did the same thing, didn't support booting from USB. I suspect you are having the same issue. Booting from USB is a more recent adaptation believe it or not. I have at least two older computers that don't support it.

According to charts I've read it's recommended to have 30-40A system power to run an HD5850. They were power hungry back then. Some of the specs I've been able to find on your PSU, along with an actual pic of it's spec label, indicate it is very low in amperage, too low for that GPU. You may have only noticed recently due to playing newer games that stress the GPU more.

"Radeon HD 5850 - 35-40A and a 500W PSU minimum"

Source: http://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/power-requirements-for-graphics-cards

Unboxing of LC5550 that shows +12v @ 2x15A (= less than 30A combined)

Source:

A site claiming 33A combined +12v (impossible with 2x15A)

Source: http://www.game-debate.com/psu/index.php?ps_id=244&psu= LC Power LC5550 V2.2

Actual LC product page showing 18A, 20A on the +12v rails, despite the same model (LC5550 v2.2) on YouTube having a label that shows 2x15A

Source: http://www.lc-power.de/index.php?id=213

This is all strange indeed. hard to say what actual spec that PSU has. Can you upload a pic of your PSU label? If not, what are the amp specs showing on the +12v rails?

Did you do something to make it happen(installed a new component or software) or did it just happen suddenly?

If it's the latter then obviously it's the one or some of the components wearing out that's giving you the problem, given that the PC you have looks rather old. majority of people here says potential RAM/PSU problem.

RAM Manufacturer is well known, PSU is not. If both were bought at the same time, I would expect the PSU to wear out faster. so it's likely the PSU is the problem. it doesn't hurt testing the RAM though.

To be honest, you should replace you PSU even if it's not the one causing problems, because it could potentially cause you one any time now.

Hello guys! Sorry for the late answer...yesterday it's was a hard work day...so, I menage to start memtest and it's running right now!
About the psu, it's quite old...but, it has always did his job...I've played with a lot of heavier games (crysis 1-2-3, far cry 3 and so on...never had a problem...) then Rocksmith or The Witcher (the first...)! Now I can say that the first time I had this problem was with Rocksmith!

A question about Memtest: how many times I let it go? It will stop by itself?
Thanks!

EDIT: no recent hardware update...
EDIT 2: should I run memtest twice? One with one bank ok ram and the second with the other? Thanks again!!
EDIT 3:slap:: to post the PSU specs I should unplug it...I see if I can later...anyway, those should be the specs...

Pretty weak power supply. Can only supply roughly half the overall wattage on the 12v. You might be due for an upgrade.

I usually look for hw stuff in trovaprezzi.it
you write the thing you are looking for and it gives you a list of retailer that sell that stuff in order of the best price...that's why I was asking about witch model should I serch...

I found the corsair cx750 at 75€ (100 $ more or less...) or the
Corsair VS 650 at 56€ (75$ more or less...)

Search for some Seasonic, Antec, and Corsair units and let us know what you can get. 650w would be a good wattage too look at.

Yes...considering a future update (of the whole hw except hdds) witch should I choose? I'm planning to take a hell of a vga (290 or equivalent nvidia, haven't decided yet...) and a cpu to oc (some amd maybe...)...

you will want to do a full system upgrade if you upgrade to said GPU. I am hoping you werent planning to get a GPU and run it with that E6550, or you will witness a pretty large bottleneck.

But in that case a CX750 would be good. Little overkill, but good for future expansion.
