My friend wants a reliable gaming router(like the title says) something that will give him NAT type 2, N+ range, no price range but try to keep it low.

I was trying to help him out but I just dont know what I'm looking for I told him about the Linksys WRT54GL and how reliable it is but the range isnt that good, so could you guess help us out? you guys would really be helping us out here thanks

Any advice at all even if you guys think the Linksys WRT54GL would be enough for his house( its pretty big)

N+ range, then you list a b/g router? N range is pretty crappy in my use, so if its gaming and not streaming, don't bother. NAT type is dependent on your modem and router configuration, I can easily go from NAT2 to NAT3 by taking my DSL modem out of bridge mode and removing my port forwarding settings.

I've had good luck using DD-WRT on an old machine I had laying around here, but it's not very practical to run a whole computer in place of a router for most people... and then you would need a seperate switch and access point too.

I told him about the Linksys router and the tomato firmware and everything he was interested since the price is 50 dollars, but today he picked up the Netgear N600 Im not sure how good it is neither does he but he just kept looking at some youtube video that lists the best routers of the year etc.
