"As with all the other 790FX boards, we had high hopes for the MSI 790FX-GD70. The 790FX, when paired with our triple-core CPU has provided us with some great overclocks. We followed our typical overclocking rituals, and after about 15 minutes or so, we raised the vcore up to 1.45v. When we did that, we got a "pop" from the board, and then the all-too familiar smell of electrical death was in the air..."

Point Proven.

You cant let 1 review from 1 person skew your views of all. If that was the case i would never buy WD ever again because i had a harddrive die in less than a year. With that being said MSI has a solid board with a very mature bios that has more voltage tweaking than the Gigabyte boards.

I have been keeping away from MSI for a while but for thanks giving I bought the cheap MSI mATX mobo + Athlon II 240 combo and the board has impressed me. The 240 is running rock solid @ 3750 Mhz without any voltage increase for 1 month now reliably.

It has the first bios in it, has few bugs, the HT Link freq cannot go more than 780 Mhz, if so the system will not boot :D. It took some time to figure this out  Didn't get a chance to find a floppy drive and update the bios to the latest, Live update doesn't work in W2K3

You can use a flash drive. That's what I've done in the past. :)

That is awesome combo. And about the brand. MSI was always in the top. I would stay away from ECS, ASROCK, J@W, Soltek(gone for while now), Biostar, Foxconn.
Brands that I would buy DFI, MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte, Abit(gone) Epox(gone).

I will try that, but didn't see any option to flash from with in the bios (like biostars).

hmm why not Biostar? They have some decent boards, and ECS is good, their boards work from first bios version, not like Asus where they release a board and bios and then release bug fixes with bioses. I have owened and still own ECS boards they work as good as premium boards but do not clock like them.

I own 2 ECS 1 Asrock 1 Biostar 1 Gigabyte(another on the way) I have yet to have a problem with the ECS other then they aren't great clockers. Biostar i won't buy again but will take one if someone wants to give it to me(like the Biostar P35 in specs from the contest) I had a biostar board fry and don't even know what caused it :ohwell:
Also i have owned Asus and MSI. I liked the Asus it was a stable board. The MSI was also stable but the Asus would overclock higher but never had them fail on me from something other then i have done

ECS is hands down the worst BIOS coders I have ever seen. I think a room full of monkeys bashing on keyboards might be slightly above their BIOS team. That last ECS board I bought was the KA3-MVP, and it was the worst AMD experience I ever had. Only one single BIOS they released had CAS adjustment for ram. This was considered an enthusiast board, and they didn't allow CAS adjustment. Completely unacceptable. My old crappy Intel 825 OEM board allowed CAS adjustment for christ's sake. ECS better make a string of knock-out boards for me to ever consider them again.
