I have a G-Sync monitor (ASUS) and GTX970 (ASUS) (see spec) ....
When using DP, the monitor sometimes goes black, and the only way to get it back, is to connect a HDMI cable.
I have updated the GPU via: Nvidia DP firmware update tool - not helping - and the error does not come all the time.

For my question - will G-Sync (144 Hz) work via HDMI? Search via Google gives no 100% conclusion....albeit the most common opinion is, that it will not work,
even though the Nvidia Control Panel says it runs at 144 Hz when connected via HDMI

PS. I have changed my DP cable to a high grade one (read: expensive) - same result.

VG248QE needs a special upgrade kit to support G-Sync. DP must be used for G-Sync.

VG248QE supports 144 Hz only via dual-link DVI or DP.

If DP gives you hard time, use the DVI cable that came with the monitor.

No NVIDIA card to date supports any kind of adaptive sync over HDMI. DisplayPort only, if at all.

On HDMI, you'll just get the static refresh rate the monitor supports (see monitor tech specs for details). The monitor will not match the frequency of the frame rate.

GTX 970 has DisplayPort 1.2 (HBR2) and is G-Sync ready. What model is the monitor?

Okay thanx for answering - I´ll try connect via the Dual-Link DVI cable when I come home. ASUS state on there website, that it will run 144 Hz via DVI,
the only things that DVI is not supporting is audio (and 3D in proper way)

I always run the latest drivers - but yeah, could try using DDU and make a fresh install of the drivers

VG248QE is not a G-Sync (nor adaptive sync in general) monitor.

1920x1080 * 24-bit * 144 Hz = 7,166,361,600 bits/second

Reduced Bit Rate cable = 6.48 Gbit/s
High Bit Rate cable = 10.80 Gbit/s

Maybe you have two RBR cables?

Yeah - you are right about the G-Sync part...sorry for the miss information, always thought it was G-Sync. But it have always worked with 144 Hz DP.

So it was working and now it doesn't? What changed between then and now?

I also had trouble with DP on VG248QE and GTX 970. BIOS version 84.04.36.00.73 fixed that.

VG248QE is best used with dual-link DVI. Even without G-Sync, you won't notice tearing at 144 Hz.

Nothing - besides updating the drivers when they come out, but I can not point out an exact time when the screen began the black outs

I´ll check the BIOS on the GPU card, pretty sure I have updated the BIOS (via ASUS official webside) years ago.

Maybe it is time to upgrade my GPU - to a RTX 2060 or a RADEON VII ... the last ATI/AMD I had was a 5870....

I'd definitely try older drivers then. Drivers can break as much as they fix.

Thanx all for suggestions.

I am now running with a DVI - works fine.
- I have tested the monitor on another computer with DP - works fine, so not the montor DP port thats kaput.
- I have tried updating the BIOS on the GTX970 - but it says it is already on the newest version.
- I have tried different drivers (with use of DDU before installing other drivers) - various 4xx.xx and 3xx.xx drivers versions)

I suspect the GPU´s DP port is broken/gone/kaput.......

I hope you problem has been solved already, but just FYI, I am using a PG279Q, and had the same issue as you do. Turned out the problem is with the included DP cable, which is of lower quality, so after using for a couple of months it gave me black screen every minute. Bought a new one on Amazon and guess what:roll:

Yeah - some of the included cables are sometimes not the best - I did change my DP cable to a high quality one - that did not work out. HDMI and DVI works fine - my assertion is the the DP port on the card is kaput.
Currently waiting for Black Friday to grab a MSI RTX 2070 Super Gaming Z Trio.....if they are comming with a hefty discount
