The shortage of Nvidia's Geforce 7900 series cards has come to an end. For some time, finding a 7900 GTX was nearly impossible- no more. Six weeks after the cards were originally announced, they have become readily available to the public. Browse majot online stores and you will find that not only are the cards available, you have a reasonable choice of vendors.

Good job on a great paper launch NVidia. I came to expect this stuff from ATI, but now it seems like things have reversed.

It wasn't a paper launch dude. They were available for a while, then it became really hard to get 7900 GTX's and certain brands of 7900GT's for a while. It's not like the entire series was off the market as a whole. They just couldn't supply them fast enough.

Well I suppose that considering how long the 7800GTX held the graphics crown, everyone's expecting the same level of quality with the 7900GTX...I think those people should look at the latest benchmarks :p. X1900XTX came just about even with 7900GTX, and dual X1900XTX came even with quad 7900GTX

Might as well have been a paper launch. The 7900GTs were almost impossible to find up until now, unless you wanted to pay a premium to get one. The 7900GTX's are easier to find because they are a rip off.

Other way around, dude. GT's were relatively easy to find on newegg, etc. It was the GTX's that were scarce, because the high rollers snapped them up within the first few days.

Odd, ever day when I looked for them there was maybe one in stock at the most, usually none. While the 7900GTX's always had 3 or 4 models in, but seeing as how you even posted an article stating there was an overall shortage I don't see why you are then trying to argue there wasn't one.

I'm not saying there wasn't a shortage, I'm just saying the main problem was the lack of high end g71 units. For a while, it was near impossible to get any brand of 7900gtx, probably because they had the highest speed requirements.

All the 7900gt and gtx cores are the same. They just run at different speeds, so naturally the highest speed bin is going to see the least number of useable chips. 7900gt's weren't too hard to find somewhere or another. I'm not saying there were tons of them, but there were definately more gt's than gtx's.

kind of odd actually, my friend works at a local computer store, and he actually hid a 7900gtx in the back because they were running out so fast and he wanted to buy one. well lets say he did, and when they were asked to ship more they were denied by whoever their supplier is due to lack of supply. he said they got about 20 more requests for a shipment of any 7900gtx, and untill last monday they had none.

Oh is that how a short supply works? One would think they would learn from their PREVIOUS release.

And I am saying it wasn't just the high end units. All the G71 based cards that were in short supply, hence the whole shortage thing. This might as well have been a paper release.
