I'm surprised no one has mentioned Malibal.com They sell Clevos for an unbelievable price with outstanding customer service and warranties. Look up some reviews on them. I have a decent desktop but my lappy is almost 5 years old now (P4 M 2.0, 2 gb ram, Geforce 6800 go) and Im looking at getting a malibal Lotus series. They have the 5870 mobility or 285m your choice. I can't exactly bring a desktop with me to my barracks that i share with 60 dudes with no desks and incredibly limited space with inspections every day, so I need a portable but powerful rig. I keep my laptop plugged in 99% of the time anyway so the bat life doesn't really concern me.

Anyway, take a look at malibal.com. They really have some impressive stuff for a great price.

Plus if you want a powerful gaming machine why wouldn't you want a desktop?

For the same price you can have much better performance, bigger screen, bigger keyboard etc etc.

I understand some odd folks might NEED portable gaming. But if you just want a good notebook I would rather a Lenovo X series or Macbook for that price.

Because sometimes you want to be able to move. I never said you wouldn't want a desktop. I have a gaming desktop (albiet old) and a gaming laptop. If both arent in your budget, then I'd say go with the laptop because its more versitile. I'm not saying anyone should agree with me on that point as its a matter of opinion.

But a gaming laptop isn't just a good notebook. It's a gaming notebook. Totally different world. A gaming notebook isn't meant to follow the idea of a "good notebook." That was my whole point. If you want a "good notebook" then by all means go for one of those. But try gaming on those. Good luck with that.

Yeah, what's so hard to understand the concept of gaming laptop ?

I want to play a game with decent framerates when I am out of town in a hotel or in a car. What's so hard to understand that ?

I gotta give you a hand for that one. I'm sure you know what he want. The only thing I would miss is getting hands-on with the hardware. But on an upside, if you did have any probs, you could probably just send it in for repairs.

BTW, I don't know if this is the same lappy your talking about, but this thing is sweet: Sweetness, but not Walter Payton sweet:D I'd damn near take it over my PC now.

Like tons have probably said before, you have to keep in mind the power those things take. Gaming laptops are supposed to remain stationary (hence the reason why there so huge). You need to have that thing plugged into the wall most of the time, as they generally lose power in a matter of minutes. They do save space though and it is great as you said to take to a hotel or something and game on it there. But don't expect to be taking it outside and gaming on the go.

There's more to it then just ''i want to play games well and go anywhere i want'', with a high end laptop, they are essentially stuffing dumb down versions of high end desktop parts into a confined casing. So you have to deal with the fact that it's not going to be portable friendly at all.

You can find links to reviews on malibals website or just google search for them. After I save up some more $$ Im gonna jump on one of those lotus series. Im still debating a 285m or a mobility 5870. I cant figure out why they would want $55 more for an older graphics card.....

I had a old gaming laptop, then got my current rig and yes this does play games better but my laptop was from 2005 and got my rig the first day of 2009, i do miss the portability it was super nice to be able to move it around and i didn't mind the heaviness IF i had the money to waste i would buy a gaming laptop but for price/performance Desktops win.

And i wish there where more girls her :( would be much better
