Need inputs/thoughts on this board. Have zeroed it down after searching for the following features in an ATX form factor:
My prerequisites for new motherboard were:
USB3 (with front panel header on board to as to make the front USB3 ports on my Corsair carbide 400R support USB3)
HDMI or at least DVI
At least 1 PCIx1 slot.
At least 1 PCI slot.
Gigabyte (as after sales of it is good in my country.
Intel OR AMD was not a priority.
Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 has all I need, only 1 problem:
It is not ATX so the space between the PCIX16 slot and PCIX1 slot is very less. I don’t think I’ll be able to install a meaty gpu if I have my Asus Xonar DX installed in the PCIx1. This is not a deal breaker since I don’t intent to game for time being but having future headroom is always pleasant
This board is pretty cheap for the features it offers:
All solid caps
Superior VRM cooling
USB3 (with header onboard)
HDMI
I wonder why this matx board has an 8 PIN power connector because AFAIK the 8 PIN connector is usually found in over clocking boards. (My IP35-E had one) I really like this but wonder why this board has one. Does this mean it can over clock well?
The CPU I’ve narrowed down is:
AMD Athlon II X3 440 Rana 3.0GHz Socket AM3 95W Tr...
Bang for buck tri-core but I guess it’s hard to find.
Any thoughts are most welcome.
Thanks.
