Furthermore, the GIGABYTE GV-R5800 Series are equipped with ATI PowerPlay technology for breakthrough power and consumption, maximizing performance per watt by delivering the highest level of high performance when needed and conserving power when the demand on the GPU is low.

The GIGABYTE GV-R587UD-1GD, GV-R585OC-1GD and GV-R583UD-1GD feature GIGABYTE's own Ultra Durable VGA Technology, which can provide outstanding overclocking capability, lower GPU temperature, and excellent power efficiency. GIGABYTE unique technology Ultra Durable VGA features 2 oz copper PCB board, Samsung and Hynix memory, Japanese solid capacitor, Ferrite /Metal Core Chokes, and Low RDS (on) MOSFET. Compared with traditional graphics accelerators, Ultra Durable VGA graphics accelerators can lower GPU temperature by 5%~10%, decrease power switching loss by 10%~30%, and increase overclocking capability by 10%~30%. GIGABYTE Ultra Durable VGA graphics accelerator GV-R587UD-1GD, GV-R585OC-1GD and GV-R583UD-1GD can provide truly "high-performance" and "green" graphic card resolutions.

Anti-turbulence Inclined Dual Fan
The outstanding dual fan design doubles the cooling capability and offers extreme silent environment. GIGABYTE builds up an inclined cooling fan which helps heats can spread effectively from hot areas. 4 heat-pipes contribute to 13℃cooler than reference fansink.

For more details of the GIGABYTE GV-R587UD-1GD, GV-R585OC-1GD and GV-R583UD-1GD, please visit the GIGABYTE VGA website here.

Looks nice. Non-stock heatsinks are always quieter and/or cooler. I would of prefered a black PCB, but I guess the blue PCB is one of the Gigabyte trademarks. I hope the price would be good too.

I'm tired of waiting and tired of of wondering if Fermi's performance rumors are true or false.

I just grabbed two of these in 5870's. No reviews to go on, but I have a good feeling about this one. Looks to be top notch quality, I love the card look, fans look effective but quiet. I'll post some pics and benchies mid week...

Looks like Gigabyte has a SOC version planned too. Looks to be a real binning process..

http://www.legitreviews.com/news/7476/

First, GIGABYTE’s database analysis system evaluates the GPU core engine, shader engine and memory. If a processor doesn’t meet the pre-defined standard, it will not qualify for the Super Overclock Series. In addition, GIGABYTE’s proprietary testing toolkit allows engineers to inspect and select the GPUs with the highest frequency. This program operates for 30 minutes and provides important data on the maximum overclocking ability when compared to a stock GPU. Once the Super Overclock point has been determined, engineers will boost the frequency to offer the highest factory default clock setting in the market. Next, each Super Overclock Series GPU faces the Graphics benchmarks, FurMark and 3DMark Vantage, to measure performance and stability under an intense graphics load. A GPU that passes this stage will perform at a lower temperature and fan speed compared to a standard GPU. By choosing the cream of the crop, GIGABYTE ensures rich rendering of intricate 3D scenes and realistic physical effects such as water, gas, steam, fire, etc for a lifelike gaming adventure. Last but not least, engineers test the power switching and stability. The GPUs with the best power efficiency and lowest power consumption qualify for the Super Overclock Series.

Yeah, looks like ATI has started to send high-binned chips out now. The MSI Lighting, the Gigabyte Super Overclock, the ASUS ROG ARES, Sapphires upcoming 4GB 5970 and the list goes on. I was expecting a "5890", but it seems like ATI is only going to launch some high-binned 5870s.

Yep, a good indicator there's no 5890 in the works.

The 5870 hasn't been on the market long enough to constitute the 5890. I still suspect a 5890 which will be an improvement in designs/features.

I also think this is one of the better 5870s to release (Atleast in Cooling Designs)

I have 2 of them in crossfire, up until now I would say the experience is not that good with these cards.

The cooling works great when used in a solo card setup, place 2 togather and the upper card gets hot as hell, and you can't watch HD movies as you'll BSOD with code 0x00000116.

Also GPU/Memory speed is locked in 2d @ 850/1200 all the time ! :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Gotta say, I'd never even consider Xfire with any open shroud card.:) I bought this specifically for a single card solution.

Will it crash your PC with any HD content? I've watched HD content without issue. No Bluray yet tho.

I profiled mine to drop speed upon boot, so a small pain yes, but no real social crisis there.

I flashed my card with a sapphire new firmware and now HD works fine, I also purchased a new long crossfire bridge to locate the lower card into the 3rd PCI-E slot and that way improve the air movment to the first card.

Now works fine.................all I need is that AMD fix the miss with their CAT 10.X :slap:

After Locating the 2nd card into the 3rd PCI-E, both cards idle at 42c with 22% fan and a room temp of ~25c

I found that properly cooling this card is a bit different from other cards. The inclined design really wants to see a vented rear panel, and a fan-less and unobstructed front panel. This is below the card.

I moved my fans around (Antec 300) so now all my intake is on the side panel, my CPU cooler vents straight up, and I removed all the PCI blanks on the back. My temps went from 42C with the stock BIOS to 35C with the new fan placement (with the Sapphire BIOS the card idles at 25C).

I can't get the fans to go under 2500 RPM though.. MSI Afterburner says 0% but GPU-Z says 2500?!?! (which seems absurdly high) Only reason I ask is it's really loud at that speed.
