Welcome to the forums!

One of the Newegg reviews mentions a fix for the reboot problem (which I hadn't heard of until now).
Newegg said:
I got the card for the performance, cost, and aesthetics and trust me it was worth every penny. After installing the card and the latest Catalyst drivers (15.20….187674C) I experienced a 100fps increase over my old card. If you want details I can provide later, just know this card is substantially better than anything I have ever had… but it suffered from the auto restart.

After a quick call to Gigabyte support I had the card up and running the way it should. The problem is hidden in the power options “fast startup”. My procedure was as follows; press windows key and x and select power options. Next on the left select “chose what the power buttons do” followed by “change settings that are currently unavailable” in the center. Lastly uncheck the box “turn on fast startup” and that’s it. Problem solved.

Yes, I am a little disappointed that the card shipped with this problem but for all I know it has more to do with win10 than it does with Gigabyte. No, the fan noise isn’t as bad as people would lead you to believe and believe it or not Gigabytes support team was actually super useful.

I'm not really a big fan of ASUS. Gigabyte and MSI are pretty popular. I tend to lean towards Sapphire if I have a choice. Sapphire is supposed to be about as close as you can get to buying a card directly from AMD, iirc.

If you're planning to get a R9 390, why not try looking into the R9 290?

Diamond Multimedia is selling the R9 290 at a whooping cheap $250 USD stock card.

That $80 could be well spent on a aftermarket cooler

My best motherboards were by Gigabyte. My 460s have been rather solid too. Fans died but got them replaced. Then one of them recently had to be baked to fix. I think the heatsinks are better on Asus or other brands tho. But if I had the choice of an Asus or a Gigabyte and the Giga was cheaper, I'd probably go the Giga.

I've been to the Gigabyte offices over in the City of Industry. Aside from a rather irritated looking old lady receptionist (Don't think she liked walk ins), they've always treated me well. Their building is a little hideous tho. They took the silver in their logo and literally painted part of the building in that. I imagine when it was new it looked great but now after being weathered for awhile...ugly and really cheap.

Course it's not as bad as Asrock. The Asrock offices is just an unmarked office building with an Asrock decal on the door. Tiny little entrance area, but the receptionist did at least have a smile and was somewhat attractive.

Best corporate office nearby I've been to was Viewsonic. They actually had fish tanks and the birds that match their logo. Really up class feel when walking in.

I don't think I would get an aftermarket for my 390, it's already pretty good for air. If I were to replace the cooling on my GPU it would be to go under water. Blower style GPUs tend to be louder and only excel in environments where air flow is poor. You very well might want that 8GB sooner than you realize. Memory clocks higher on the 390 as well, so you're going to see closer to 290x performance out of a 390.

Drivers work fine on my 390 in Windows 10. No crashes or BSODs I can speak of and pretty consistent performance.

I'm not a fan of gigabyte cards. But I like my msi 390 gaming with unlocked voltage control on the gpu and ram.
Having said that, my previous 7970 Ghz windforce is still running fine in another system.

I would also say stay away from gigabyte cards. I had a gigabyte 290X windforce edition & the pcb bend was a bit ruff & the cooler was just shit imho, far to loud & hot.
FYI gigabytes warranty here in Australia is beyond a joke:banghead:

Sent back for RMA & well 4 months later... (gg gigabyte) I swapped that for a asus 290x DCU2, no problems no overheating & i can get a small OC with this card.

As for those MSI cards nothing wrong with them great coolers not what i would call loud fans.:rockout:

As a matter of fact, at 100% fan the msi 390 gaming makes less noise than the gigabyte 7970Ghz windforce at 100%.
Temps are better also, on the msi card. :toast:
