Very interesting thread and answers a few questions I was wondering about.

I myself am looking to upgrade my video card that I bought as a temp measure. Sapphire 4670 1 GB.

I'm trying to decide on getting either a 6870 or 6950, most likely Sapphire toxic edition.

I built a rig around Jan of this year and my video card is the only lagging component.

My specs are

i5 2500K 4.2 Ghz OC with Hyper 212+ cooling
8 GB DDR 3 1333 Mhz G Skills Ripjaw series RAM
Asus P67 pro B3 stepping motherboad
Crucial C300 64 GB SSD
Rosewill 630 W power supply

Initially I was ok with a 6850 card and am leaning on jumping on a 6950 2 GB Toxic edition.

I currently have a ton of games as backlog with BFBC 2, Far Cry 2, Assassin's Creed, Crysis, Bioshock, etc.. tons of others.

I'd like to play them at max settings and want to hear more thoughts on people's experience with the Sapphire 6870 and 6950 Toxic editions.

imho it feels like a bad time to upgrade. It would be overpaying for the lenght of time the cards have been out and the current market situation.

I mean if the 590 and 6990 launched at the same price point as the 4870x2 (550-570$)

then the 570 and 6970 would be both ~ 200-250$.

I mean we're coming up on the 10th month since the gtx 580 launched. To me that seems like 2 month more on a 5850 and you'll be able to pick up this generation's gpu's for half the price they are now. plus have some new contenders to look into.

Mars and Aries have always come out right before a new gpu launches.

I jumped on a deal for the XFX 6870 on newegg the other day and should end up costing me $100~

Will wait for the card to arrive and see how it does. All I hope is that it doesnt get too hot.
