My 7950 CF is at 1200 core, 1500 mem, both cards show in gpu-z as having 288.00 gbs transfer rate or whatever its called, and i was wondering if my pci 2.0 x8 for each card is limiting them? do i need pci 3.0 mobo and ivy bridge cpu? or am i not maxing out the bandwidth?

Pcie x8 2.0 is more than enough for pretty much any ATI card apart from the x2 cards. Nvidia cards like more bandwidth but even then you would be talking 5-10% performance at most

Pcie 3.0 is really only useful just now for running multiple graphics cards as a 3.0 x4 slot has the same bandwidth as a 8x 2.0 and a 16x 1.0.

Much appreciated, but I thought the Nvidia cards required less bandwidth? 384 bit 288gb/s on the 7950 oc, but a gtx 680 is only 256 bit, even at same clocks doesn't it require less bandwidth? That's why i was worried originally because i noticed my 288 was so much higher than my friends 680 according to gpu-z

The bandwidth that you're describing is between the VRam and GPU, not the VRam and CPU. PCI-E doesn't impact memory bandwidth within the GPU itself, but rather the rate in which data be moved to the GPU from the CPU which is something completely different.

you probably mean "card" (yes i know you know). the gpu is the graphics chip, which is located on the card. the memory chips are also located on the card and physically separate from the chip.

Why does the head admin on this forum who tests insane setups only have a gtx 670 and onboard audio... I know you are richer than me Wizzard, and smarter, I guess being as busy as you are though you don't have much time to game or listen to music, eh

i dont have much time to game. that gtx 670 is the quietest card on the market and good enough for me at 2560x1600 (i rather have low noise and a bit slower).

dont care much about audio, my speakers were literally pulled from the trash, over 10 years ago

Oh W1zzard... fair enough on the GTX 670, but come on mate, some premium audio can be very soothing. :toast:

I don't think they do, they are given a prepaid shipping label to "most" of those items back for free.

LinusTechTips on Youtube said that's what most of his review PC hardware samples come down to, I think they do get to keep some though.
