Hi,

I need help from you guys in upgrading my graphics card, my current graphics card is an Radeon 8570D, I have two main problems with this card, firstly it only displays 1920x1080 despite me having a 2560x1440 monitor, secondly it only runs games on low quality setting which is slow and not enjoyable. My current Specs are detailed below, could you please suggest possible upgrades which would be compatible with my PC and able to run 2560x1440 display..

Current Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 8570D
Processor: AMD A8-660K APU with Radeon HD Graphics
Memory: 8gb
Motherboard: MSI FM2-A55M-E33 uATX
PSU: 500W Quiet Power Supply Featuring Large 120mm Cooling Fan
Monitor: BenQ GW2765HT LED IPS 27 -inch W Monitor 16:9 2560 x 1440, 1000:1, 20M:1, 4 ms
Budget: £100-£150

Many Thanks.

Hi,

To my knowledge, all APUs support up to 2560x1600. Are you using a VGA cable? The max resolution of VGA is 2048×1536 which would explain why you're limited to 1920x1080. You have an HDMI port on your motherboard and on your monitor so if you're not using them I would suggest to do so.

Now concerning your main question, buy a R9 380 4GB or R9 285 4GB (they are exactly the same). I know it's a little bit over the budget when the 2GB fits the budget but higher the resolution is, higher the amount of VRAM needed is. It wont be strong enough to max out all games at 2560x1440, but it still will be a lot better.

Also, you have a pretty weak processor so I would highly suggest to overclock it (with of course, a decent cooler) to avoid a CPU bottleneck.

Wait...how are you connecting this? It's possible an old/outdated connection type could be limiting you, like DVI-D Single Link, or and older version of HDMI... not 100% sure on the specifics but it's just a thought.
