I know some people think this as a stupid question and it will be a tough question .. But i want to know what is the best(even considering very little deference)

I spent lot of time to find a performance difference between these two and i couldn't come up with exact answer. Some says GT 240(GDDR3) performs better than GT 440(GDDR3) because of the GT 240's large transistor count

some says GT 440 performs better than GT240 because of the new GF108 chip...and please don't consider about the advantage of DX11 over DX10 when you are posting your idea...

    [IMG] [IMG]

when considering in a theoretical way some one can say GT440 outperforms GT240 but i want to know the exact practical results...(my resolutions are 1600X900)

The GDDR3 version would perform somewhere in the region of 5-10% faster and the GDDR5 version ~15% faster, although the 440 has a higher clock speed the cores+shaders are not as powerful so it probably acts like your card would if you pushed it to ~620 core

gt240 is way faster then a 9600, your looking at +60% or something

what do you think about GT440's(585M) lower transistor count than GT240(727M).. doesn't it affect on GT440's performance against GT240 ??

that's why each individual shader is less powerful and why the extra 300mhz only makes a 5%-10% difference

Why do you need the cards?

not for hardcore gaming..but i need a good card which doesn't use external power..that's why I'm looking into one of these

wait? what? GT240 is way faster?

both GDDR3, but how come the 9600GT is faster than GT240 in my experience?

yeah, your right actually, i just assumed the cores difference would would make the 9800gt faster, didn't realize that although it has a low core count it has a high memory bandwidth etc that actually make it faster, in which case expect the 9600gt to be 20% faster while using a bit more power

For casual gaming then, I suppose? Or for video?

oh, and how GT540M compares to those two? and 9600GT too

about the same as a gt440

9600 slightly faster but more power usage

so the 540m is still slower than the 9600?

what a heck of a card, it ran stable at 800Mhz core too, lol

well i suggest getting the GT440 for it, it ran very cool.

I can attest that the GT240 is really only good for casual gaming.

If you do decide to get it remember that high quality shadows (really anything above crappy shadows) will absolutely rape the card.

If it's merely for playing video, I would rather buy a passive 4550 or so if I were him. Cheaper to purchase and even more economical (and quieter). Hence my question to him.

sorry for delaying... yes it is for casual gaming ..i think 4550 is not suitable option.. 5670 would be a good option ..but i don't want a card which use external power ...

GT440 should be plenty enough as it can play NFS:HP flawlessly on 1366x768 resolution
    and 30-40FPS on 1080 resolution

True, for gaming a 4550 is way too weak.

BTW, a Radeon HD 5670 does not have an external connector. It is not a strong card though, maybe a HD 5750 is a better option. The lastmentioned card is more powerful than a GT 440 while it uses roughly the same amount of power. Yes it has a PEG connector, but that is because it's TDP is 86 watts (so 11 watts too much for being connector-less). Do not worry though, the PEG connector will only get used when using programs like Furmark. Games usually don't push power draw that far (in practice, the HD 5750 will consume equal to, but outperform the GT 440). When gaming on 1600x900, a GT 440 might not be powerful enough to run games fluently.

that couldn't be farther from the truth, how the hell is an 8 rop card going to be 60% faster than a 16 rop card?

    [IMG][IMG]

infact it's not, it's actually slower than a 9600gt. only 5% but still slower, not 60% faster.

you'll have to take the difference between the 440 and the 430 on the right to get an idea of where the 440 would fall on the left.

thanks, but i've already dismissed that quote of yours with another quote further down, i didn't realise the memory bandwidth and rops etc, i just assumed the 200 series were close to the 9000 series
