If 1080gtx has voltage/power problems, this one with 4vrm is going to even more, especially if you're trying to aim 2Ghz+..

I think they'll have that taken care of once the custom/AIB cards are produced. I mentioned in another thread you can see where a second power connector can be soldered to the GTX 1070 reference/FE board designs even. And it's easy to see now locations available for additional VRM components. Same is the case for the GTX 1080.

What I'm getting at is there may be weaker versions of both available. But surely there will also be more powerful versions of the GTX 1070 too. Just like is the case now with the GTX 1080. Most non-FE versions of the GTX 1080 being released are quite beefed up in the power department.

For air cooling, a single 8 pin will be more than enough with a custom bios.

One oldschool LN2 overclocker said it has a hardware 1.25v limitation and its the worst chip yet when it comes to OC, 2.0 - 2.1Ghz is max max. And extra 1x8pin or 20phases wont help either.

It is something, but a bit weak if you compare it to Maxwell OC capability.

It's looking more and more like that limitation is a driver problem, and not an actual hardware limit.

What they were seeing was the driver crashing with the voltage set above 1.25v....not that they couldn't go above 1.25v. Big difference.
