GTX 470 or HD 5850, Its too early for me.

Sense my dad is slowly leaning towards getting some new stuff, ill probably get some headroom to buy a new dx11 gpu, and eventually sell my 2 month old bfg tech gtx 260 and evga 192 core 260 record holder


What im deciding and, i already want to make a decision on is to whether buy a HD 5850

or a GTX 470

*note* I hate the 480 and its disgracing me on how terribly hot it is, ya it runs great and the gpu can take the heat, but something that hot can affect a whole system's stability in the north-bridge and heat hitting my processor so...


If you can help out, posting reviews of the two cards competing with eachother. Ill call this new 300 dollar video card my downgrade/upgrade/ what i want instead of a netbook -_-.

I got the cooling even if the 470 is hot, but im sorta ganna fold at least 100,000k on it if i get the 470 and itll be the bigger step to the water cooling i eventually want.

I think the 470 with more newer drivers, after-market cooling, and some bios updates could be a destroyer in my opinion for 350 dollars. Looks pretty sexy to .

Buy a used 5850 and be done with it, best value GPU out there at the moment aside from the 5770's and even a pair of them work out more expensive*.



*though they do usually perform better.

Get a used one - they float around for $260-$280ish here, hardforum, etc.

If you aren't satisfied then sell it again...

GTX 470 still overpriced, some website says it's cost US$ 349 to US$ 399.

with SAME performance with 5850, of course 5850 much better than GTX 470, and you'll save 50 to 100 bucks.

Why do u need a new GPU??? I just can't feel yet the impact of DX11 in games if u can wait a bit will be good the prices will be down for the GTX470 or maybe nvidia will release new stuff cause i think the GTX260 still good for current games having in mind the size of ur monitor...

Considering he did state in his post that he plans to fold on it, that does put a different spin on things.

But why oh why can't they get more efficient drivers for ATI cards for folding!?!
