Motherboard ASROCK 960GM/U3S3 FX
Memory 8GB Crucial DDR3 RAM
Video Card(s) Nvidia Geforce GTX 670 FTW
Storage 80GB Windows drive, 500GB 2nd
Case GS-6500R
Power Supply 550W Thermaltake
I'm looking into upgrading to a new GPU from my GTX 670 FTW.

Currently I have found a GTX 970 SSC ACX for around 370 and a GTX 980 G1 Gaming for around 440.

Would it be worth the extra $60-70 to jump from 970 to 980?

What kind of monitor do you have or plan on gaming on?

Currently I would only be gaming on one out of my two 1080p monitors. I may in the near-ish future upgrade to a 3rd monitor and play in 3860x1080.

If you are planning the 3 monitor surround, I would get the GTX 980 for the "extra" VRAM and power for the games.

Your probably best served with the 970 and potentially grab a 2nd when you go for your third monitor. If you have the extra $70 to spare by all for the 980 it's around 15% stronger than a 970.

I was thinking for only $60-70 that a GTX 980 G1 Gaming is a no-brainer over a GTX 970 SSC. My GTX 670 FTW still runs most games (Witcher 3 included) on High to Very High with decent fps. I can play Battlefield 4 on max with at least 40 fps in most cases. I am considering upgrading because I know, come 2016, I will have to - to be able to play on highest settings with nice fps.

I have used SLI in the past with my GTX 670 FTW and had nothing but problems. SLI has left a bad taste in my mouth and I really only want to have one gpu.

Sounds like you've made up your mind then go for the 980. I still haven't gone SLI yet it'll be a year or 2 before I form arm opinion on SLI hopefully a good one.

An FX-8350 pairs great with a GTX 980 right? No bottlenecking or anything? Also how will a 750w PSU stand up?

Yes, its going to be better in the long run.

Yes, as logn as you push it to a minimum of 4.5ghz you should be fine. The 750watt PSU is plenty even for 2 GTX 980's.

I think you shouldnt have any problem doing that at all. Your CPU is more than enough for any game as of today and the next years especially if you crank it up to 4.5Ghz. 750 watt is enough if its an okay PSU.

I haven;t ever had any problems with AMD and I would have to spend another $600 to switch my motherboard and cpu to intel based, not gonna happen lol
