Recently, I sent my Asus 980 TI Strix for repairing the middle fan which started sounding weird. After 2 weeks, the seller decided to refund.
So, now I am on iGPU again.
I just ordered the 980 TI Lightning, but I am not sure if I made the right decision. Seeing a few reviews, now I am a little uncertain. It doesn't OC well at all, in some cases it doesn't even reach and stable 1500Mhz, it's performance si on par with pretty most all of the models available. The Gaming version beats it in some cases. Temps were also a little meh, considering that big cooler.
So, guys, tell me some reasons on going on for this card and some other reasons to go for another brand/model

Personally.... Send it back/cancel order, get a refund then pick up a used GTX970 or GTX780 (there are some used 970s in the FS section) and sit on your hands till Pascal comes out next year.

I would agree with FreedomEclipse. If you're gaming on that 1080p TV in your specs then a 970 is fine for now. The thing with Pascal is that it's expected to be a big leap in performance over Maxwell and will also have HBM2 memory. imo a midrange Pascal is going to be faster than that 980 Ti.

But that's going to happen in late 2016 , or even early 2017. Gta 5 for example struggles even with a 980 ti in some areas, with all the details on max. And, i'm kind of a "all the details o the max" type of guy.

Mid 2016 actually. If you really have to throw money away then pick up another 970 for SLi to tie you over.

Heres a member selling 4 of them for $250 a peice - thats $500 as opposed to $800 you are paying for the lightning and the 970SLi will give you better performance though with a few minor niggles here and there when it comes to game compatibility/SLi Scaling. Im sure @BUCK NASTY might be willing to knock down the price a little if you wanted to buy a pair of them.

Its honestly not worth paying anything above $500 when new tech is almost just down the road. We have a few new games being released this year, Triple A titles that will sure as hell be getting sli support from Nvidia if not straight away then a few days after its release.

How? I run a single 780 at 1440p maxed out in that game and it hovers around 50fps which is good enough for me. And thats online. Its better in the main story.

Like I said, in some areas, like on the hills with plenty viewing and alot of grass, the FPS drops to low 40s. And that"s on 1080p.
So, is it ok to go for 2 GTX 970 Zotac AMP! Extreme Core edition?

are they second hand? Cuz if not then you haven't listened to a word i have said in my previous posts. youre still paying $760 for two cards which will be outdated in less than a year (though not quite obsolete)

In my region, there aren't many possibilities to get SH 970s. And I don't even trust SH products. The idea is that if I can get those 2 (brand new) is less costly than that 980 Ti lightning.
And If am not sattisfied with those 2 in SLI, heck, Im gonna' return one and learn to live with one 970 until Pascal.
The question is, is that model of zotac better than the other ones available, like G1, Msi Gaming, etc?

For info, the lightning here scores just over 1000$.
And the 2 970, I can get them for 200$ less

Performance wise, I am sure these 2 970 AMPs, will be defeating that Lightning with 20% less money

Buck Nasty aint your general run of the mill second hand seller though - He even states that the cards are 3 months old and have had marginal use! And because Buck Nasty is a well known and reputable member here on the forums, what you are getting if you choose to buy from him is better than any open box or B-Grade hardware you can buy from any retailer out there! I class cards like that as virtually new!

But alright - you ask for advice but dont want to listen to the advice that is given.

so yeah - go ahead with your 980Ti Lighting. You obviously have the money to spare, So it doesnt matter what other people think or advise because you have your mind made up already.

Im unsubbing from this thread. Dont want to listen to advice/suggestions or opinions when asking for them? dont bother making a thread then.

Good day to you sir.

Hold on, I guess you didn't pay attention at all. Ok, I am from Romania, and by my guessing the guy you recommend is from US. Now that's a lot of shipping and costs.
And in no way in hell I was not listening to your advices, don't take it so personally. As you saw, I let down that Lightning, and got on with the 970. Wasn't that a step?
I even asked you to recommend another brand/model of 970 if that AMP doesn't cut it.

If you want to get 2 new 970s for cheaper than a 980 Ti then that is fine but I would make one suggestion. Just buy one card and try it with GTA V first. You may find that you don't even need the second card at 1080p.

$250/card is a good deal, and shipping? That's what? Another $50? Still cheaper than your 980ti addiction.

Please, don't get me wrong. Ok, if @BUCK NASTY agrees to deliver 2 x970s to Romania, than I accept.
Just that I don't know how will we proceed. Aren't there any custom fees also? And I would love to know the final shipping costs.

I had a MSI 970 Gaming and a MSI 980 Ti Gaming right now and they both run cool and quiet. There is one warning about the 970s though. Some have experienced coil whine. The good thing about buying the cards from BuckNasty is he will tell you if either have coil whine. Also you might want to ask him if he would check into a flat rate box that will ship anywhere in the world. I may be mistaken but I think the rate is $55.

Bastards at customs slap you an import tax

I'm glad you knew about that. I guess it's not a good deal to buy the used 970s from BuckNasty then.

That's what I was affraid of. There are a lot of taxes between the continents, and I think that I'll be ending up paying more taxes than the products themselves

Well, you gotta ask yourself if it is worth it to spend that much more money just because in just a tiny fraction of ONE game (which is also one of the most intensive games to play) the fps drops to 40 (which isn't even that low)... For 1080p I'd never go for more than a GTX 970 (or the AMD equivalent). It just isn't worth it, unless maybe literally the only thing you do is play the very latest games on ultra

The previous advice in this thread is already top notch, I would listen to them.

As far as getting a 980TI Lightning, unless you are cooling sub-ambient, those cards really are a waste of your money. In fact, I believe a very common gripe about this card is that it does not clock well on air or even liquid cooling. The card physically was not designed to run at hot temperatures.
