GTX580 not able to handle two 24"?

Hey guys!!

Just bought another 24" ASUS Monitor and puggled in, everything on windows desktop works fine!.

My question is, when i open a video on the 2nd monitor, and move to the first one , the windows are soooo laggy!! , why is that?, gtx580 doenst have enough power to handle two 24" monitors?

There must be some problem with they way you setup your videos. I can easily drive two screens with my old laptop, nevermind a 580.

....just joking, your GTX580 should handle two easily. What resolution are you running?

what output are you using? sounds like a setup issue for sure, possibly with your media player.

can you try an alternate connection ,even if you have to use an adaptor. your card could have a physical limitation with using two DVI ports for some reason.

the GTX 580 is limited to 2 monitors active at the time. So u should be fine with 2x24 inch monitors, try what Mussels says also install the newest driver to see if that helps.

Are these high res videos? Maybe they are being decoded with CPU instead of GPU?

@CounterZeus they are normal videos, anytime i open one , that windows get very slow, im using SPLASH LITE to reproduce the videos, it uses nVidia PureVideo to decode.

I have nVIdia drivers 331.65 , using Windows 7 64 Bits

also one question, can i play on both monitors at the same time? or tho i have to use 3 monitors?

tell us your clocks of your GTX 580 when you are on desktop maybe it clocks to low and makes it lag

NVidia doesn't allow two monitors to be used in Surround (4K displays are the only exception since one panel appears as two separate monitors). Even if you could, it probably wouldn't be a good idea since the center of your field of view would be on the bezel, and for example in a FPS game your crosshair would be split over two monitors.

Uncheck 'Show windows contents while dragging' in Control Panel>System and Security>System>Advanced System Setting>Advanced>Settings...and you'll be good to go.

I don't hear people talking about it much, but I've personally been real hit/miss with video cards and dual monitors. I've tried at least 20 or 30 different setups over the last decade...some cards work well, some don't. Screen tearing on the second monitor is a common issue I've run across as well as the problem described in the original post. I've had the problem on high end cards, and then I install a cheapo card...works perfectly - and vice versa. It's real disappointing when you're new $400 card performs worse than the $150 card it replaced. For my business monitors I changed over to nvidia's nvs series, they're reasonably cheap and handle dual monitors without any problems. Although, probably not much of a solution if you're trying to game on your pc....

@Liquid Cool i did what you told me , somehow it fixed the problem moving diferente windows across both monitors , but in video playback is the same, i open a movie [ 1080P ] on the 2nd monitor and start doing something on the first monitor and even the movie gets laggy!

It may be related to 2d vs 3d clock speeds.

Also might work to mess with your windows theme, aero can do some weird stuff.

what video player are you using, cause it seriously could be the problem. are you using DXVA playback?

It normally can't be caused by 2D/3D clocks, because before 600 series nVidia didn't allow (might have been a bug) 2D clocks on their cards when you have multiple monitors.

Glad to see part of the problem is solved....

For myself...If we're talking about Youtube, I'd reinstall the flash player and try another video card driver, perhaps one a little older.

Looking at your specs, dual monitors should be NO problem at all. I've run triple display setups with much much less.
