Good day to all,

I am about to format my PC and my partitions are creating quite a hassle for me. To begin, this is my setup:

- 2 x 72 Gigs Western Digital Raptor 10k in Raid 0
- 1 x Hitachi 500 Gigs storage drive

Partitions(please don't ask how my PC ended up this way):

- 144 Gigs for Windows Vista (WD drives Raid 0)
- 135 Gigs for Windows 7 (Hitachi)
- 330 Gigs for Storage (Hitachi)

As you can see, it's quite a mess and I do not use Vista anymore. I want to Install Windows 7 on my Raid 0 along with the whole 144 Gigs so i'll just clear the vista partition(no problem here).

Here is my problem. I want to clear my 135 Gigs that is currently on my EXISTING copy of windows 7 and ADD this amount to the storage folder. So the math is 330 Gigs + 135 Gigs = a whole lot of storage for me :). So what I want:

- 144 Gigs for Windows 7 Raid 0
- 465 Gigs for storage: to achieve this, do i need to go into manage/Disk Management and somehow right click on my 330 gigs (after formatting the 135 gigs) and extend it somehow. I learnt this in college but things pass with time. Thanks for your time and posts!

You need to remove the 135GB partition, not format it. Once it's empty space you can right-click the first partition and extend it.

1.) Unhook the Hitachi.
2.) Install Win7.
3.) Re-connect Hitachi.
4.) Boot into Win7.
5.) Go into Disk Management.
6.) Delete the 135GB Partition from the Hitachi.
7.) Extend the 330GB Partition to take up the unallocated space.

Excellent! Wow, very prompt - thank you!

Well then, I have a whole day of formatting ahead of me and a second day of figuring out Ubuntu tomorrow :). Thanks - enjoy the sun!

One small note, Mike... most techs recommend allocating a small partition for the operating system, on a fresh drive, so that it allocates at the edge, which accelerates access time for the OS, and minimizes OS file fragmentation. Good luck! :)
