Hard drive question...

I haz this hard drive...
ST31000528AS

Its a Seagate Barracuda @ 7200 rpm 1 TB ... just curious if there is perhaps a better hard drive I could use only for games? Not trying to spend a ton of money. Just want to know if i would see any significant performance increase with a better hard drive? I already get good FPS running BF4 and Crysis 3 and such.

There is no need to do large bold like that, you will get less positive attention and more than likely ignored. Just a heads-up.

That drive will work fine for games storage. Your FPS is rendering, and an HDD doesn't affect FPS in rendering, it affects performance in texture loading, and that's what you'd notice from performance hitches while data is being loaded.

Honestly if you are not experiencing any issues, it doesn't sound like you need to replace the drive. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. :toast:

I might be wrong but I think it doesn't matter what hard drive you have. Even if you run a game from a SSD it shouldn't increase any performance only loading times. But I might be wrong. Never had an SSD and even now that I'm able to afford it I don't think it's necessary for me to have one.

The only time it would help is if the game was streaming textures to the game itself. It can also be helpful if you're running a heavier game and other programs are getting pushed to the page file which starts bogging things down.

It really depends on the game design, what you do with your system and how snappy you want it to be. I would rather have more RAM than an SSD.

Gaming mostly... Usually have the games near maxed out. BF4, Crysis, Far Cry 3, Etc, gonna be playing some newer games too. Sometimes use Sony Vegas... and Photoshop. Already have 16g of 1866mhz ram. Just wasn't sure if my hard drive could possibly be a bottle neck or something. just wanted to be sure, and I wouldn't be replacing it, just adding another Just considering options.

Switching to a faster hard drive, or even SSD, is not going to give you an improvement in frames per second in games. It will improve load times, but not FPS.

Well I have been noticing, at least for BF4, the load times are quite long for multiplayer sometimes, however its not that big of an issue.

Make sure you use the flat ribbon cables, too. The rounded ones severely limit FPS on modern AAA titles.

You can set up a RAM cache for your hard disk..
If you don't want to get an SSD..
