Hardmod on a Connect3D X800GTO VIVO

Hi! atitool shows the following fuses
0xFFFFFFFF
0xFFFFFF9E
The card is based on the R423 core. From what I have read on the forum this [i.e. the fact that only the final E is different from the moddable version] means that the only thing to do to hardmod the card (besides flashing the bios) is to bridge the copper dots in the upper left corner. Am I correct?

And a second question (for curiosity's sake): if I do the hardmod but do not flash the bios, will atitool show 0xFFFFFFFF & 0xFFFFFF9F?

You are almost 100% right with exception of the core type. Your card should be with R480 (R430) but not with R423. Because of that it can't be moded  .

thanks dolf, but you must be wrong this time; the core looks very much like a R423 if I have ever seen one (in fact RivaTuner also recognizes it as such, but I have checked anyway)

here's what's written on it (if that helps)
Radeon X800 Pro
215RBKAGA-12F
GF2415.1
0441AA

so it's just a simple bridge job, right?

If you can see any bridges it is simple - just connect the left one. But the fuses are for R480 (of course it can be R423 but I have never seen fuses like yours on R423). If you can post picture of your core.

Well, I have just put the cooler back and I am out of paste, and unfortunately I took no pictures. I'd rather not take it off again (before I mod the card, that is). But I have done some searching on the net and the core looks exactly like these ones:

Are the fuse numbers so strange for an R423?

And yes, the two unconnected bridges in the corner are there.

If your core looks like in link 2 - it is R423. Fuses are strange but possible. You should see (most probably) one laser cut (on the left bridge). You have to connect it using conductive compaund (paint, laqcuer) but before that clean with something sharp the contact dots because they are insulated. To do that you have to take off the coller again. It should change the the last digit from E to F. Than you can flash it with X800XT (VIVO or Non VIVO deppending of the card) PCI-E BIOS. Don't fill the laser cut just make the connection around it.

Not sure if this helps, but I have a C3D X800GTO and when I removed the HS, it actually had R423 printed on it - I have photos somewhere I think. W1zzards bios mod has worked GREAT.

I've heard it stated time over that you cannot hard mod a card that can't be firm-modded to 16pp... but perhaps someone has found a way.

thanks dolf; I'll do it as soon as I buy the paint and some more thermal goo
and sasqui, what do you mean by "cannot hard mod a card that can't be firm-modded"?
thx

I have no idea  but forget about that. If you connect the bridge as described above you will be ready to flash to 16 pipes and you will have them. Your pipe quad will be blocked even after the connection of the bridge and flashing of 16 pipe BIOS will be necessary (using modified flashrom or atiflash with additional flash options). If you discover something different than left bridge cut (both bridges cutted) don't connect but return here. When you are ready please inform us for the results ;) .

i think he means soft modded, if it cant be soft modded using modified drivers then hard modding will pretty much ruin your card, unless you take the bridge away.
