Yes, and with the K-series, don't be surprised if the stock coolers allow the processors to hit the 100C throttle limit. Don't be too afraid though, Intel has a pretty good thermal throttle design and I've yet to see any failures from Haswell running at these temps fail in the field (not talking about OC'd units with extra voltage, talking about field deployed OE units).

They are easy to install, don't block RAM slots, and are good enough for the job. If you have load temp OCD, then plan on buying an aftermarket cooling solution though, because odds are if you get a K series, or even the mid-range quad cores and up...odds are they'll run pretty toasty under load. These CPU's idle excellent and will cool off very quickly though. So expect acceptable idle temps.

This all depends on your environment too, the hotter or cooler the ambient air, expect that to greatly affect your temps.

With that said, a cheap Cooler Master 212EVO will do quite nicely at handling all 1150 CPU's, and even with some OC capabilities.

Hope that answers your questions and maybe a few more! :toast:

Hi just a simple question is the stock coolers for a Haswell i5 and i7 the same.

Yes, all the stock coolers are the same for the I series of processors.

That depends on the i5 and i7 processor you are looking at. All the CPUs over 65w use one cooler, all CPUs 65w and below use another. The cooler for above 65w has a copper core, the cooler for 65w and below is all aluminum. All the i3 processors and below use the weaker all aluminum cooler, and the low power i5 and i7 processors(4440S, 4590S, 4690S, 4770S and 4790S) use this cooler as well. Though I've heard Intel switched to the copper core cooler for the 4770S in the second batch and all the 4790S processors come with the copper cooler. I can't confirm that since I only have a first batch 4770S that came with the aluminum cooler.

I was mostly referencing the standard desktop series was not even thinking on the i3's and the S series chips. Though I had thought the 4770S came with a Copper one...My mistake on that I had not really considered the S might use the i3 aluminum core variants.

noupe... intel make crappy coolers for i3 processors, a little less crappy for i5 and decent ones for i7,
I was mostly referencing the standard desktop series was not even thinking on the i3's and the S series chips. Though I had thought the 4770S came with a Copper one...My mistake on that I had not really considered the S might use the i3 aluminum core variants.
4770S still a desktop version dude...
no mater what cooler you got with the processor, just replace it .. intel stock cooler sucks...

That will work well at stock, or close to stock settings.

Regards,
What part of my comment said otherwise...I said "standard" only referencing the normal desktop versions. Never said the 4770S was not a desktop version its just a lower power variant that I normally do not reference nor did I think about the cooler on those.
I have an i5 haswell and I was going to put the reference cooler from an i7 haswell on it.
Well it depends on the version CPU you have because if your talking that 4690K version of cooler should be the highest stock cooler they have so it should make no difference.

Should work just fine as long as the cooler has the copper core.

Just to chime in (for googlers) that this only applies to socket 115x chips. first gen 1366 I7 coolers will NOT fit 115x sockets however ALL 115x coolers will fit 115x sockets meaning 1150,1155,1156 coolers all fit each other.

It will but I think it wont make a difference as I believe both coolers are probably the same one unless I have missed something.

Yeah, most likely the same.

The cooler for the i7 has the copper circle (for sure) added to the bottom, making it work a little better than the Aluminum only cooler.
My i5-4690K came with the copper bottomed cooler too.

If I was you, I would replace it right away, just a simple CM 212 EVO does the job a LOT better than the reference cooler.

Based on my experiences ith intel for more than 11 years of using its craps:

About Stock Coolers:
Pre-aplied Tim that comes with them is like mayonaise, works well for a coupl of hours,
When they got old... its legs may become harder to fit into motherboard socket tray holes,
They are optimized for catch dust inside disipation fins... pretty hard to clean out sometimes...

How to use them with out problems:
Replace Pre-applied Tim, FTW
Try to wrap conection cable arround it for preventing damage on it, its pretty fragile on most cases,
Clean often, this may help to reduce risk of stuck cooler into motherboard holes...
:peace:

Actually know that we are talking about stock coolers....
Does anyone have tested / used a delidded processor with a stock cooler?
o_O

That should be way better than stock at the very least.

Benchmark Scores well I've fried a 775' P4 12 years ago, that counts?
pretty solid coolers.... coolermaster or arctic cooling one will outperform better than the other one,

I can't confirm that since I only have a first batch 4770S that came with the aluminum cooler.

the i5 4430 and the i5 4440 I bought both had the copper core cooler.

I just bought the i5 4440 but the i5 4430 was bought about 3 years ago

somewhere along the line they must have switched over to the copper core ones.

probably so they only need to make one cooler for all of them

Just to chime in (for googlers) that this only applies to socket 115x chips. first gen 1366 I7 coolers will NOT fit 115x sockets however ALL 115x coolers will fit 115x sockets meaning 1150,1155,1156 coolers all fit each other.
That's awesome, the big ass 2600K cooler has a nice huge copper center....................so lot's of headroom for temps there :toast:

Those are both 84w processors, so they would have always come with the copper core cooler. And they've only been out about a year and a half.;)

my mistake, I bought it in 2013 thinking it was the older gen 3 i5 and I didn't even realize it was a gen 4 cpu I was buying I just went by the i5 tag and ghz ratings.

things were a lot simpler when a new generation cpu had a new name for it
