so I'm hoping they mean 2x Xeon X5650 in that cinebench list. Because it this thing can't beat a 4 year old xeon that's terrible.

We use several of them in our PowerEdge R710's, typically dual cpu config. It's still dissapointing if a haswell-e based hyper threaded 8 core can't beat 2 older Xeons though. Our newer PowerEdge R520's with a single Xeon E5-2440 smoke the dual Xeon X5650 R710 config. Well save for vmware where mo cores = mo better.

This kind of makes me leary about the newer dell line up a bit if the haswell based xeons can't even match the ivy bridge one's we're in trouble.

Since they didn't already exist?

In defense, server software tends to have workloads that can utilize more cores are demand for services increase. Not to say this is always true, but if your software scales these are the kinds of CPUs you should be using. If it doesn't a skt1150 Xeon clocked higher is your better bet if serial workloads is your thing.

Either way, it's progress. More cores is great for data centers.

the one listed showed 18cores/36 threads, but that wasn't what I was talking about. The X5650 is a 4 year old 6 core/12 thread xeon. Cinebench lists 12 cores so I was hoping they meant 2x X5650's in a dual cpu config. Becuase otherwise at stock the new 8core /16 thread 1000$ haswell E desktop version can't even beat a 4 year old 6 core despite being clocked higher.
