Despite numerous reports last week (including one on techPowerUp!) that the adult entertainment industry has gone for HD-DVD over Blu-ray, DailyTech claims that this isn't completely true. In an interview with the site, founder of Vivid Entertainment (one of the big names in pr0n), Steven Irish, claimed that his company fully intends to back both formats. The adult entertainment industry has a big impact on sales despite its secretive nature - when the industry chose VHS over Betamax it was deemed to be a big factor in VHS' success. Other companies such as Digital Playground still intend to stick with HD-DVD to start with, but the industry isn't being exclusive. However, it's very possible that online downloads could be the future of all films, not just adult ones, and that could be a big deciding factor. All that can be said so far is that the ball isn't in HD-DVD's court just yet.

Let's e-mail Ron Jeremy and ask him if he wants to be interviewed by TPU about this issue.

Lol, I'm sure he'd have a lot of interest in the matter. Probably sweating in his sleep trying to decide which to go for... or perhaps that's actually for other reasons...

I read somewhere that Sony's Blu-ray standard wont allow XXX content on Blu-ray discs, so by default XXX content has to be on HD-DVD.

once the ps3 is widely available, well see whether blu ray takes off, however it still isnt definite that the thing will be a success yet.
It could make or break blu ray as a format, the ps2 had a massive impact on dvd sales prior to dirt cheap players becoming available, however there wont be the same this time around, as people will be reluctant to replace their movie collection yet again, not to mention the ps3's ludicrous price (obviously as its a discussion on blu-ray, i mean the more expensive one with hdmi)
