DDR5 can process double the amount of data than DDR3. Effective Bandwidth of DDR5 is 4400 MHZ while that of DDR3 is 2200 MHZ at 1100MHZ .

In W1zzard's review of the 4870 he says, that with GDDR5 on a 256bit bus is like running GDDR3 on a 512bit bus. I would go easy with overclocking the GDDR5 though, as it's very new and no one really knows the limits yet.

Hmm... 1250MHz would give you a 5GHz (5GT/s) Effective clock... Insane if it could clock that high.

Definitely buying a 4870 now, and thanks for the info on the fan fix. The heat issues it had was holding me back from buying a 4800, but the heat that one of them puts out would make it a nice heater in the winter.

looks like zalman VF900 and 4870 does not play nice
must be contact, i think, the base of zalman is flat while the base of stock has been rised in the middle :/

Well let me be the first to bring this up..
I have been using this fan fix for over a week now, found it on some other site..
Now if you are using Crossfire the fix will only change 1 fan..
Too do 2 fans you use the same fix but scroll down and you will see another set of values to change change those to the same as the first set and save restart CCC and create profile if you wish..
Now both cards run at 50% or whatever you changed it to..

Thanks for the fix. It took me a while to find, but after I searched in hidden files, it worked fine.

Is there anyway to physically make the fan run at 100%? The fix isn't working for me.. I copy+pasted that thing into the document and set it at 100, 90, 70 and 65 and none of them are loud at all and my temps dont change.. I just want it to run at 100%..

I've gotten the fan fix and OC'ing via AMD GPU tool to work! Create your profile, delete the clock settings in the profile, do the fan fix and save it. Overclock your card via gpu tool, then close it. The key to all of this is activating your profile via the icon in the taskbar! It works!

Yes sir! You will only be constrained by the voltage and temperatures.

Does that up the volts? Or are they still stock. Cause overdrive wont let me go past 700 and I see alot of people with 800+ OCs. Whats the highest core I can do on stock?

No it doesn't change the voltage values. You'll have to figure out what your particular card can do with the voltage it has. Some are better than others.

fan fix worked great but i couldnt OC at the same time, so i disconnected the fan, and attached it to a zalman fan mate. so now i have manual controll of the awesome fan, and a great OC (850/4500)

On post #66 there is a fix for OCing and fan fix... Works with the new 8.7's.

Hello Wondering if you can help me. I was using the 8.6 hotfix drivers on my 4870 and i did have a profile created for 38% and it worked get. I just installed the 8.7 and i cannot create any profiles now. I do have the ACE folder open but it is totally empty. (YES overdrive is enabled) Everytime i try to active my 38% fan Speed profile it says it already exist but i don't see it anywhere. did the profile folder change with the 8.7 drivers ???? Thanks
