Help me build a 200$ PC just to browse the internet

Hey guys, im trying to build a PC for my aunt that uses it to Skype with family (webcam) and to browse on the internet once in a while.

We have the monitor, keyboard, mouse and screen.

So all I need is memory, cpu (I was obviously thinking of going the AMD route because it's cheaper), mobo,HDD and power supply.

Do you guys think it's possible with a 200$ shipped budget.

I live in Canada btw.

Thanks,

Get a chromebook. If you need more than the chrome OS for basic uses like that...get a 16GB SD card and load Ubuntu on to it. They are very capable and easy to use, capable, good battery life, and switching between Chrome OS and Ubuntu is easy. I have a co-worker that uses his old chromebook as a network diagnostics tool versus the business laptop that was purchased for that reason because it has better battery life and is just-as-capable with the right utilities in Ubuntu.

That or get some old/used parts and slap together a little tower...or look into a used Intel NUC or similar part for AMD. That's my thoughts...I'm out the door but I wanted to at least post those ideas before I left!

You should be able to find that same stuff at Newegg Canada.

The Athlon X2 340 doesn't have an iGPU, so you're missing graphics. AM1 fits the budget better IMHO. Also you're looking at US prices and not Canada NewEgg prices which are a little higher. I would recommend AM1 instead.

CPU: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113366
Memory: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211811
Motherboard: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130759
Price: $119.97 Canadian Dollars which leaves you with 80 CAD for a case, PSU, and HDD. 200 CAD is a hard one to pull off though IMHO.

Also, do you need the webcam too?

Better, but AM1 consumes so little power that I wouldn't be that picky when it comes to PSU. I would spend the 4 extra dollars on 1 stick of 4GB DDR3-1600 CL9 that I linked and use a power supply like this: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817152019 which is 20 CAD cheaper which would put this under 200 CAD, like he asked. Normally I would go with Seasonic but with a 200 CAD budget, I would go cheap. I say this because AM1 + a HDD isn't going to consume more than 50 watts (which is on the high end) at any given time and is probably going to idle at a third to a quarter of that so any PSU (even crappy ones,) can supply that kind of power.

How about something sized like the budget?

OS extra though.

Should be under $200 in retail. Intel Bay Trail-based, 100% silent. I'll have a usage review soon, just dealing with Z97 launch stuffs.
