So I'm all over steam looking for a game that me and a freind can play this weekend. It needs to be co op of course but also a fully designed to be played entirely co op over the web.

A couple games I'm looking at are:

L4D2 (which I'm not sure about because I'm so tired of L4D1)
    Borderlands 2

BUT what we really want is a RPG fantasy style game. Something along the lines of elderscrolls (1st or 3rd person) warriors, wizards, rangers etc... but not an MMO.

We would prefer something that is not 'top down' like diablo or nwn but I am considering Diablo III.

Anyways I'm having no luck finding anything like this that is not a diablo clone.

Visually it would be nice to have a good looking up to date game but we are willing to play an older title (last 5 years) if it means getting the experience we want.

Thanks for any and all input!!

Borderlands 2 is a lot of fun, consider that as your first choice.

If you are considering Diablo 3 for a weekend, and I assume you would be playing low level characters, try to get full 4 player party so there is some challenge for those who wander off :D

Yeah I own Borderlands 2 already and have played it a lot. My friend has never played it. because its a good game I am considering it but what we would really prefer is a high fantasy type game.

I'm even considering NWN2 now as it would at least give us that D&D type game we are looking for even if it is old as all hell and dated too.

We don't want to play with any other people. But Diablo III is another title I'm considering.

Also, if you don't mind ultimate Diablo clone, you can try Titan Quest, also has co op and heaps of play time + expansion

Any chance of playing an online game like Guild Wars 2? or freemium ones like Lord of the Rings Online or something equivalent.

This might not be a bad $1 investment:

Also, Path of Exile and Marvel Heroes are free to play and are pretty decent.

The reason I stated above that we don't want an MMO game is due to the infrequency that we play online together. Both of us being married and dads with full time jobs mean we can't dedicate the time required to get the most out of an MMO. Plus I already have accounts on pretty much all the MMO's out there including the two you mentioned.

I guess from reading this thread that we are SOL on finding a 1st person or 3rd person fantasy title such as the Elderscroll games that are co op.

I at least don't feel bad that i couldn't find any lol

If you play the original Guild Wars you wouldn't need to commit a lot of time to farming equipment etc, its very "slow".

Magicka gets my vote too if you want to stay strictly off MMOs.

Actually that looks pretty good, (Magicka) and I will spend some time checking it out tonight.

I have around 1500 hours into the original Guild Wars. I don't think I can handle another hour of it. lol

I would recommend the first NWN over NWN2 any day of the week.

Torchlight 2 is considered by many to be everything that Diablo 3 wanted to be but didn't deliver on. Pretty fun game, but like Diablo, it has the top down (really 3/4 down) feel that you were trying to avoid. I just didn't want to miss the opportunity to recommend it, I always do when someone brings up D3.

Dungeon Siege 1 is pretty dated but one of my favourites, and Dungeon Siege 2 just made it more awesome.

Dungeon Siege 3 would have been an amazing game if it wasnt called Dungeon Siege. Sadly it is, and its a polished turd compared to the first two. It does have Co-Op however, and I quite enjoyed the campaign. It's got nothing on DS2, except better graphics.

Also +1 for Torchlight 2, that game is awesome.
+1 to Magika, its hilarious, for the first 10 minutes(maybe 10 hours) you will be killing yourselves and one another. Sometimes by accident, mostly for the lulz.

NWN 1 is extremely slow and D&D like, but I liked it a lot. It involved pre-planning though, and a lot of min-maxing(I aimed for the Black Guard spec). NWN 2 is good, but not as good. Similar to DS3 in the way it just has better graphics but it isnt a better game.

    Whirlwind animation = priceless
Finding a decent 2H axe with good rolls and effect proved more difficult early game.
Once I found one, I slaughtered every NPC in game I could. Stole all those useless capes. And a tapestry. Because reasons.

    +2

Neverwinter Nights with addons it's a hell load better gameplay wise which will give you both many hours of play time and is not a Diablo clone and should be dirt cheap now....

How has no one recommended baldurs gate?! Baldurs gate HD edition will give you a lot of co-op fun.

Then you start again at a higher difficulty level.

About DnD: That Baldurs Gate remake thing isn't worth it. The original with mods is better.

NWN is probably the way to go there.
