So I am likely going to purchase a thuban and want to move to the 890FX chipset. Here is my issue.

I run crossfire 5850's. I want to run them both at 16x since I game at 2560x1600. I also run a raid card that takes care of my SSD's in RAID0. I also have a Xonar D2X sound card that I want to use (not currently using it).

The issue is that with the MSI 890FX you can only run dual cards @ 16x if two of the 5 PCIe slots are empty (leaving me with only one more PCIe slot to use for the raid card).

The CHIV formula has to have the video cards in the 1st and 3rd PCIe slot to run dual cards @ 16x. Again, leaving me with only one PCIe slot let to use.

Now to the CHIV Extreme. It has the ability to use three cards @ full 16x due to the hydra chip. Also, the layout will allow me to use both my raid card and my sound card. I did some reading and the native crossfire slots are the 1st and 3rd PCIe slots. However, I think I could still get away with using the 1st and 4th slots (the PCI slot would be the only slot covered up) and this would allow me to use my raid card, sound card and raid card if I wanted (or maybe a PCIe SSD ).

Any other boards out there other than the CHIV extreme that will allow me to use my components the way I want?

Did some more reading and it looks like 16x/16x isn't that much different than 16x/8x.

Probably gonna go with the MSI board then.

The new bulldozer chipsets aren't set to be released until the second half of 2011. The AM3+ platform will be backwards compatible with AM3 CPU's from what I can tell. So I guess I can just get a thuban now if I want and then move to a 990FX board when they come out. Then upgrade to bulldozer later on to see how it performs.

Do you have a link on that? I didn't know that the new chipsets were coming out so soon though I suppose it's possible since Bulldozer is rumored to be released come April.
