How is this relevant? If you're digging for conspiracies, we can stop right here and you need to buy that 4060 now.
We're an inch away from bullshit here. You can find any bunch of nonsense on Youtube. I'm not even spending a second trying to debunk what some idiot says online. If you have trust issues with TPU, go elsewhere ;)
OK. Thank you for your help. Done. Over & out. The increased VRAM usage was a topic in one of the digital foundry videos as i remember, so not really a conspiracy. I had amd cards in past and while they have raw performace numbers, like i said their software side is bad. Drivers are worse and releases are farther apart. FSR is stil considerably worse than DLSS. RAy tracing performance is worse in same card tier and even frame gen solution seems to be worse. So no, never again AMD for me.

I asked for advice between 2 NVIDIA cards, sir. I think i detect AMD fanboy and i shall not continue pointless internet argument with you any further. Thank you for your input.

Nah, the vast majority in this topic said buy something other than either of your options. But again - you do you. The 4060 is clearly the best choice. You're welcome.

If you're dead set on Nvidia:

This is Alan Wake 2 with Low settings on 1080p.

At high with DLSS 3070 still has 26% advantage.

The only thing that lets 4060 pass 3070 is FG, which isn't supported on 30-series.

? This does not match the TPU performance test. Over there it says max settings without RT.

That's because it's not the TPU performance test but one from purepc which has a different testing methodology. This is High settings 1080p, RT off, DLSS/FSR off:

Compared to TPU:

FPS might be different to to different scene picked for the benchmark but it doesn't change the performance gap between 3070 and 4060.

I bought RTX 3060 12GB for €200. Should be enough. My main hobby these days is drunken rampages, not gaming.

Honestly, that's a pretty good alternative given its price. Well played sir/ma'm! Good to see you were open to the suggestions given in the end.

Thank you everyone for replies. After thinking a lot about it, in the end i decide my money is best spent on 4060. Very low power consumption, brand new, frame gen support and AV1 encode support, which will matter once/if twitch/amazon implements functionality, since i like to stream from time to time. And i game in 1080P. Yes, AMD is much more generous with VRAM, but on the software side of things every solution they have is worse than same thing on Nvidia side.
Agree to disagree lmao. I have two gaming systems with AMD and 100% rock solid with everything.

I have a choice. I can buy brand new RTX 4060 or used 3070 for around the same price. I don't know what to buy. 3070 is more powerful out of the box. But 4060 beats it with frame gen in supported games. And has half the TDP. Which one would you buy?
You call that a choice? They're both terrible choices but I'd take the RTX 3070 over the RTX 4060. Needing frame-generation to win is not a win.

I've actually visited Matrox. IIRC, they're Intel ARC cards now.

Interesting. They did use ati/amd chips for awhile, I recall nvidia also for a bit. But I guess whatever is least money.

Tell me AMD's upsampling solution and frame gen solution is better than Nvidia counterparts. AMD needs to work haaaaaaaaaaard to catch up with Nvidia on software side of things, not just hardware. If i had AMD card now and went trough AMD drivers, I could probably find a bunch of other things that do same thing as Nvidia, but worse. What was the name of Nvidia Reflex counterpart? Anti lag? AMD had to suspend that garbage until they fix it. I had probably a dozen AMD and dozen Nvidia cards go trough my PC in my gaming career. AMD was and is worse than Nvidia in absolutely every way other than being more generous with amount of VRAM in same price range. There is not a single other thing hardware or software that is better on AMD cards.

They've done pretty well for themselves. Even though they weren't in the gaming space for a long time, they created a niche, a niche that they dominate. Their cards are used for CCTV video and security. As you can probably guess, there's a crap-tonne of money to be made in that market because it's fairly under-served. I think that it's like, if you need a card that can capture 24 cameras at once and at the same time output to a dozen monitors, Matrox is your card.

So... you don't actually own a Radeon card but consider yourself qualified to dump all over them? Please tell me that post was you being ironic because my RX 7900 XTX thinks that you're hilarious.

Nah, Cirrus Logic or S3.
I actually had a Cirrus Logic Super VGA card back in the day. Compared to ATi at the time, a Cirrus Logic card was a bargain, something that someone in his early teens (like me) could actually hope to afford.

I also had an S3 Chrome IGP on an ECS/Elitegroup PM-800-M2 motherboard. A lot of motherboards with VIA chipsets had S3 Chrome IGPs. They actually worked pretty damn well.

Some other brands that I remember from the 90s would include Oak, Diamond (Stealth/Speedstar), Orchid and of course Matrox and 3dfx.

Yeah, tell me about it.
