Interesting. They did use ati/amd chips for awhile, I recall nvidia also for a bit. But I guess whatever is least money.
They've done pretty well for themselves. Even though they weren't in the gaming space for a long time, they created a niche, a niche that they dominate. Their cards are used for CCTV video and security. As you can probably guess, there's a crap-tonne of money to be made in that market because it's fairly under-served. I think that it's like, if you need a card that can capture 24 cameras at once and at the same time output to a dozen monitors, Matrox is your card.
Tell me AMD's upsampling solution and frame gen solution is better than Nvidia counterparts. AMD needs to work haaaaaaaaaaard to catch up with Nvidia on software side of things, not just hardware. If i had AMD card now and went trough AMD drivers, I could probably find a bunch of other things that do same thing as Nvidia, but worse. What was the name of Nvidia Reflex counterpart? Anti lag? AMD had to suspend that garbage until they fix it. I had probably a dozen AMD and dozen Nvidia cards go trough my PC in my gaming career. AMD was and is worse than Nvidia in absolutely every way other than being more generous with amount of VRAM in same price range. There is not a single other thing hardware or software that is better on AMD cards.
So... you don't
actually own a Radeon card but consider yourself qualified to dump all over them? Please tell me that post was you being ironic because my RX 7900 XTX thinks that you're hilarious.
I actually had a Cirrus Logic Super VGA card back in the day. Compared to ATi at the time, a Cirrus Logic card was a
bargain, something that someone in his early teens (like me) could actually hope to afford.
I also had an S3 Chrome IGP on an ECS/Elitegroup PM-800-M2 motherboard. A lot of motherboards with VIA chipsets had S3 Chrome IGPs. They actually worked pretty damn well.
Some other brands that I remember from the 90s would include Oak, Diamond (Stealth/Speedstar), Orchid and of course Matrox and 3dfx.
Ah, but it was true some 10-12 years ago you know, and on the interwebs a truth can never change or get updated. Once there it's set in granite.
Yeah, tell me about it.
