I made the game in order that players lose the game :p
So i made it faster and set the int speed = 3.
Next time, maybe i make it a float speed = 2.7 or smth like that.
The first idea though, was setting it to 5 to lose as fast as possible :)
Also, did you notice that the speed of the ship is equal to the aliens?

You can use sfxr to generate sound effects. It's small, quick and outputs them as .wav files.

Cool now is better playable here without increase the brightness to 100% :)

Now only lacks the challenge of the left side off the game :)

v1.1 is much better.

There is still a LHS issue, where soap bubbles fall, but you cant reach them to shoot them. I also find it odd that the gun turret is darker when you move, and lighter when you are stationary. Why that?

I think the autofire needs to be implemented, or the spacebar will be destroyed. Obviously autofire isnt as fast as manual fire.

There aren't any powerups. How about a soapball that falls faster and is a different colour that gains you an extra life. It would appear once in a while.

I would also implement the soap balls falling at (very slightly) different rates. Some 5% faster, some 5% slower. It will make for a much more pleasing graphical effect.

And the bubbles should "pop" when hit? No? A "pop" sound would be much cuter than the typical invader explode noise.

That's due to the response time of the monitor. I got the same with the O's :)

If that is true, then there is a problem with the draw/refresh algorithm, and there is a blank frame being shown between drawn frames when moving. Needs fixing. This is not the monitor at fault. No other game, simple 2D as here, or complex 3D DirectX suffers from this. There is a problem with how the "sprites" are being managed by the game engine. This might not be a fault of Alek, but possibly allegro. I don't know. I don't know allegro, and I don't know how Alek has programmed the game and dealt with graphical elements and sprites.

I think I got what you're saying after changing the refresh rate to 75 Hz the movements are less smooth. In 60Hz (what I usually use) it's fine as commented

The issue seems to be the game is locked to 60 Hz at least here according to fraps (the game uses 3D acceleration)

In fact, the ship is basically 3 squares.
One square is the red part, which is overlapped by a black square in order to make the shape.
The third is the turret, but the real problem is the black one.
Will try to change it to 80 FPS instead of 60. Maybe it has fps issues.

Edit: Just maintained the problem with the aliens at the right moving the ship a bit more off the screen :)
Also the FPS problem, now the game is 80 FPS and the game runs much smoother.
Only need 1 additional edit and the new version is out x)

Hmm. I think there is a major problem with your Development Environment: Allegro. It isnt designed for this kind of thing. I'm getting 100% single core utilisation and just 17 fps in fraps. OK, this is a Northwood P4 3.0, X800XL, but this PC can run older DirectX9 games at 100fps.

I'll take a quick look at Allegro. Never heard of it before. And try to see what this is all about. You WONT be able to develop anything more adventurous than this simple shooter, so my advice would be to switch do another Development Environment now and start relearning skills.

I just downloaded a couple of Arcade Games remade in Allegro. The PC ran them fine. They were 1. zaxxon http://www.allegro.cc/files/depot/1504/zaxrr.wip.0.4.125.zip and 2. Invaders+Galaxian hybrid http://www.allegro.cc/files/depot/433/galvaders-setup.zip

So if Allegro can do those fine, i wonder what is wrong with your invader game :confused: Is it conflicting with something on my PC? Very odd! The mystery begins...

SOLVED: Conflicts between this game and locked game refresh rates and locked GPU refresh rates... not being same. Set one, but not both.

All i get is a mere 2% and i know that only windows gets that much :p
Also it uses 13,012 kb ram
Maybe is my fault for bad programming the game don't know if it is only you or there are more with 100% utilization

Maybe this is cuz of allegro 5.0.4

found out zaxxon is version 4.124 a bit old i think :S
try something with allegro 5.0.4 (if there is one...)

Also, with other game engine, do you mean this one http://www.crytek.com/cryengine :D

Looks like there is a triple buffering never heard of it in programming
