Well games similar to Dangerous Dave....every action adventure game on NES.

Recent titles with a super bad ass killing....well everything else cause they are.....generically evil...but fun: Pain Killer

As for actual horror games, I can only recommend Dead Space, the upcoming Dead Space 2, and F.E.A.R. 2 as those the ones I have experience with that were actually startling at times.

NecroVision is a pretty fun horror themed FPS that looks good and is fun to boot.

    the requirements are pretty bizarre...

NOTE: Nvidia 260 GTX & Nvidia 280 GTX are not supported.
This product does not support Windows 95/98/ME/2000/NT or XP x64/Vista x64.

I don't even see how these 2 things are possible.

Doom 3 is a nice horror game - really scary at times with ghostly voices coming from nowhere and stuff like that - works best with turned off lights and headset :)

It doesn't really have a storyline though, just made for the purpose of scaring you. :D

I would recommend the first F.E.A.R, not the second and although they aren't really 'horror' games Bioshock 1 & 2 create a pretty eeiry atmosphere and if you follow the storyline you can get quite caught up in it.
