    Symptoms:

After installing ATI Catalyst driver release 8.12 for two or more ATI Radeon HD ™ 4850 graphics cards in a system with ATI CrossFireX™ technology, the system restarts and halts on a black screen. The black screen occurs prior to the loading of the desktop for the Windows Vista 64-bit or Windows Vista 32-bit operating systems.

This issue ONLY occurs when two or more ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphic cards are installed in the system with ATI CrossFireX technology. One single ATI Radeon HD 4850 card will not encounter this issue.

    Recommendation:

Customers are advised to continue using their existing driver set for systems using ATI CrossFireX technology. ATI Catalyst driver release 8.12 should not be installed for systems using ATI CrossFireX technology.

AMD plans to continue to investigate the issue and will publish any updates that become available.

    Applicable Products:

The issue applies to the following products:

    Drivers:

    ATI Catalyst release 8.12
    Graphics Cards:

2 or more installed ATI Radeon™ HD 4850 series graphic cards in a system with ATI CrossFireX technology
    Operating systems:

    Windows Vista 32-Bit Edition
    Windows Vista 64-Bit Edition

Did this just affect the 4850's?

Or were the 4870's and issue also?

Seems like 4850's I guess, I know didn't affect my 4870x2. But thats what I was wondering.

I was getting these issues with 4870's crossfired. 8.12's would give me incompatible driver for 1 of my cards after installation. Im on 8.11's again , AEE turned off. No bsod after windows logon.
This is on vista 64 as well. I was hoping the hotfix applies also to 4870's.
