i used xp 64bitfor about 8 months with no problems, i loved it, then i switched to vista 64 bit, i like it and have been using it for a while now and like it but will be looking hard at windows 7 soon.

but i had to go back to xp64 on 1 rig o some reason and something i found is that it ran the benchmarks just a tad bit faster, but to enough to justify using it again.

sorry for my ignorance and askin a slightly of toppic question but what is xp x86? ive heard of x32 but not 64 or 86
x86 is a reference to the 80386 (aka 386 or i386) processor that defined 16-bit and 32-bit instructions on Intel processors. A processor that is "x86" compatible is said to be mostly backwards compatible with code going all the way back to the Intel 386. x86-64 (64-bit extension to the x86 instruction set) is still almost 100% backwards compatible with the Intel 386; however, Microsoft opted to remove 16-bit support on x86-64 operating systems.

The only time I've seen "x32" used in terms of technology is on PCI Express specification. That is, it stands for "times 32" or "32 lanes."

The only problem I faced in xp x64 was, for some reason there was no sound recording. No microphone, no "what u hear", no nothing. There was simply NO recording. I know for 100% certian that my microphone works, it was an oddity with xp x64. When I switched to Vista x64, my recording features worked again.
Driver problem. I noticed "What U Hear" isn't available on all sound chips. For instance, Realtek (integrated) doesn't have it. Come to think of it, I think I only saw "What U Hear" on Creative sound cards.

I think XP x64 still has a lot of bad press left over from 2005-2006. I was one of those who jumped on it at the first chance I got in 2005, mostly as I was curious. Some hardware did not have drivers - Hell, a lot of things didn't have x64 driver support yet. Things as simple as WiFi adapters and all that.
The OS itself though? Miles ahead of XP x32 in my eyes. It was FAR more stable for me than x32 was, I hardly ever saw it crash. When it did, it was usually the fault of a game with a bug.

I am in fact moving back to XP Pro x64 either tonight or tomorrow. I can't be arsed with Vista on my gaming rig anymore, I am going to go back to XP until Windows 7 comes out properly. I might jump on the release candidate though, if it turns out to be good.
