How do I over clock my cpu? (opteron 165)

I was wondering how far I can overclock my cpu, and how do I do it? look at my avatar for my stepping. Also it it cooled by this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835118119

Also When i over clock what temps are the max heat? when playing games or running prime 95?

as far as temps, my x2 is overclocked to 2.4ghz from 2ghz, load temps on a cooler simialr to yours is 55c.

just go in 5mhz incrimints run prime95 for 30min the first time it freezes add more voltage cont till you hit 55C under load and stop

ok its overclocked to 2.59 ghz dual core!!!

so what should i do to test stability? im running prime 95 on the max torture test and temps dont get above 45. is that good?

nice! for how long? I'd run it for a few hours just to make sure things are stable.

its been on for 2 hours, is that long enough that if my cpu was unstable it would of detected it by now? cause everything is going fine and its maintaing temperatures of 30-38. Just wondering because i want to run 3dmark06 lol.

Lol, are you running 2 instances of prime 95, one for each core. Because if you’re not, pretty shure you’re not, you are only testing one core at a time. Only when both cores are fired up that the temps go up pretty fast.

I also have a opteron 165, but i was very lucky to get the best stepping, CCBBE 0610 .

You need one running for each core. Create prime95 in two different folders and when both are lunched set your affinity at 0 for one and 1 for the other.

It’s to test your stability, if you’re only using one prime 95 you’re testing half of you’re processor. To make shur your stable you need to run duel prime95 (to instances of it).

how long does it take to find out if my cpu cores are stable? wouldnt it of detected it unstable if it was by now? cause i dont think its unstable at all, people got my cpu with my stepping to 3ghz
