Boot speed depends on your system. For example my 3 year old Abit with a 3800+ x2 boots way faster like you will only see the bar pass 2-3 time, how ever with this newer system can be any thing like 5-8 times you would see that bar pass.

As long as every thing is running good no faulty HDD or DVD player or some thing a clean install after hardware been installed will give you more of a idea how fast your system boots.

Are you testing from the time you push the power button or from the time you you enter the welcome window or what exactly ?

if you're running an ati card you should disable onboard graphics, although an ati card on a nvidia chipset.. just doesnt play well together. your memory timing should be something more like 4-4-4-12 2T at like 2.1V 800MHz.

You can try enabling both cores on boot up with msconfig.

Warning though you can make things worse and disable cores.

i'd say about 25 sec after the dual boot screen (XP sp3 and Linux), and 5 before. that's for xp. Linux loads in about 10 secs after the dual boot choiche.

I don't know what the ECS bios looks like, but it's usually under onboard devices.. disable onboard gpu. under chipset (advanced, features or whatever it's called), there should be reference clock multi's and such. look for memory features; that's where you'll find memory timings.

correction... I looked up that memory, and it actually is supposed to be 5-5-5-18. that's shitty. your cpu would benefit by better latencies and timings, but your ram doesn't really allow that.

if I turn the pc on when the socket's been off I get three attempts to boot in, the last one being the one that makes it POST.
if I've left the socket on then it's about 30-40 seconds.
so about two minutes including rolling boot..

XP desktop, bootup is about 35 secs from power on to fully usable state.

Defrag is competently done by Diskeeper automatically in the background, so no critical files are fragmented which could otherwise increase the boot time.

Currently I have RivaTuner, Razer drivers, Nokia PC suite, Colorvision calibration profiles and some other random stuff loading up. Probably disabling some of these will cut the time down by atleast 5-8 secs.

EDIT: rig is a E6550, 2GB booting off a WD 640GB.
