How long with components?

So I've been here for years and just checked out the Case Mod Gallery. Some of those are amazing and they are all nice. When one builds a really and elaborate rig with top of the line parts for that gen, how long do you hold on to the rig? I ask because I've seen some rigs that have to be very customized by the modder and I couldn't imagine them redoing that when new stuff pops up.

That's all up to you, how much money you have, and whether or not you should upgrade. I'm sure we all want to upgrade all the time but for a lot of us the rest of life doesn't allow us to do so very often...

When I've done build for other people over the last 20 years, I usually have told them to expect 5 years out of the system and then it's probably time to replace....but I'm personally using a pc from 2007 and will continue to do so until it dies. It's fast enough for what I need. Core 2 Duo isn't dead yet...at least in my household.
