Yes I know but what about future graphics cards? They may pull 300 or 400 watts, and if I want to crossfire or try fire I'll be able to and I'll be able to support a higher end cpu
In recent history, GPUs use less power. I doubt in 3-4 years they'll be using a lot of power.

How much does the current highest end amd and nvidia GPU use?

That's not how it works. Energy consumption doesn't go up. If it did, we are looking at 500w cpu. But we now have 65w i7 cpu which is far less than CPU of old. GPU power consumption did go up for a while but it's been going down in recent years.

Regardless of that, I am happy with having more than enough in the case that anything goes wrong, we can't tell the future, and tbh I got quite the steal on that psu, it was pretty cheap for a psu with that many watts, anyway, my primary question is how much using all of everything in my computer running at full power, does my system have in wattage left, I merely asked for that, and everyone launched into a debate on the need for a psu with that much power, which is not my question whatsoever, so if anyone can do the math, please do because that's what I asked for, otherwise don't tell me how much power is how much I need, I got the psu I want, next step is my question

If it pleases you, so be it.

Personally, that's a waste of psu. 700w psu would have been more than enough.

Maxed? Like, at most 450w.

you need a watt meter like i said hours ago otherwise you will have to rely on educated guesses.

i aim for double the rated capacity of my machine.

so,
i would be happy for my machine to draw 650w from your 1300w psu. you will find lots of useful information about psus on TPU and Google.

Most high-end GPUs max out at 350w. A newer one on a new process will probably use less. A new CPU will usually max out at 200w, even if you're looking at overclocked intel i7 extreme editions. You will never hit 1300w with one GPU, and you will almost never get near 1300w with two.

Whoever said 700w probably took it from a website recommending a 700w PSU for a system with a 280x inside. My HD 7770's box said a 550w PSU was required, but the card itself only used ~100w max.

That all said, it's always good to have spare power. I would get a 1300w PSU if I could, because who knows when I might pick up another 2 280x's? :p

EDIT: Updated system specs, they were out of date.

@Avengerpilot Think of it this way.
Single GPU, usually a 500-600w PSU would work. I bought mine in the same mind but I knew I'm not going to xfire 295x2's.

Xfire or SLI (2 way) usually 750-800w is nice, not too big, not too small. My system specs are proof of that and again, full load from everything coming from the wall was 750-760w.

If you want another R9280, you could go with a 750-800w since 3-way ANYTHING isn't worth it in the long run. Tbh xfire R9290x's can run on a 800w PSU and would get your current card rekt in terms of power.

If you don't OC stuff and choose parts carefully, PC can be surprisingly and brutally energy efficient. Use 2.5 inch HDDs instead of 3.5, DDR3L instead of regular DDR3. Use no more than one chassis fan and use air flow to handle the heat and so on.

Only a high-end workstation for rendering would come close to 1,000w or a massive storage system.

I don't know if I would be willing to use a 2.5" HDD, as performance and capacity will suffer. SSD would draw even less power though, but the capacity still isn't there. You can use DDR3L (or better yet, DDR4) to save some energy, and find an energy efficient processor, and then pair it with an 80+ platinum power supply.

If you get WD 2.5 black, the performance is fairly identical to 3.5inch. I won't say the same because it's slightly slower. Though I use HDDs for storage nowadays. I will soon move to 500gb SSD for Steam games in a month or two.

Skylake is very power efficient processors and I also had Haswell i7 4770s before. Both rated at 65w.

Edit: Forgot to cover the capacity part.
Yes, laptop drives are limited to 2TB and I don't see it going up anytime soon, but if you need to store data that's more than 2TB worth of stuff, it might be better off doing it in external HDD or build a media rig which I've done.

Look at OP's specs; his CPU is a 220w TDP chip, and his GPU is one of the known power hogs. By no means is he an efficient user.

Doh, never looked at his system spec. That CPU is one hell of leaky one. His system is pretty much polar opposite to mine. LOL

I didn't say the performance was going to be bad, just not what you can get in a 3.5" package. The capacity will definitely be lower though, no getting around that.

I see you considering an SSD for your Steam games. Could I possibly persuade you otherwise? I made the same move myself a few years ago, and was disappointed. The only reason I haven't got rid of it is because it would be too much of a pain to sell and replace with an HDD (especially now since it is devalued), and for what it's worth, it'll produce less heat, noise, and draw less power than a HDD (not that I had any problems with my previous HDD). And there's still a part of me that thinks it'll load faster even though the better part of me has seen the difference for myself (and couldn't really tell the difference).

Benchmark Scores Never did it for fear of frying my GPU/CPU
Doh, never looked at his system spec. That CPU is one hell of leaky one. His system is pretty much polar opposite to mine. LOL
Look at OP's specs; his CPU is a 220w TDP chip, and his GPU is one of the known power hogs. By no means is he an efficient user.
Haha, when building my system I wasn't worrying about power consumption I was worried about getting the most powerful thing I could get in my budget, I'm not in this for the power savings, but I don't use much else but the computer so I leave a very small carbon footprint lol

There we go aw if I was to crossfire 295x I'd still have enough power to overclock cpu and then have about 100 watts for exteas
Lol no. 295x2 is confirmed to take 1400w in 4-way xfire (dual-gpu cards, 2 cards = 4 gpus)
Your CPU can easily do 250-300w, so if you wanna see fireworks and fires, then two 295x2's and your cpu would do it.

That CPU isn't any better than a 3770k and honestly, a 4790k would do better and not break your PSU.

Personally and honestly, I do not have an issue with my current WD black that I use as "App" drive. It has 750gb and I am currently using ... 60gb. It hardly goes over 100gb because of my habit of storing stuff and deleting off programs I don't use. I store critical stuff to external HDD x 2. (Backing up twice) And if it's media, they are transferred to my media rig.

The problem with those big 3.5 inch HDD is that loss of a single drive is too big. I mean loss of 4TB+ data is a little too much. Therefore, I've been keeping HDDs in my media rig to 2TB only. I don't prefer to use raid 5 on it. Just individual single drives labelled differently with 4th drive being sort of backup of more important stuff.
With that I've been thinking of rebuilding my media with using only 2TB laptop drives. I could probably make a really small media unit out of it.

We are gettin' off topic. :p
