HP Pavilion laptop wifi problems

Hi I bought a second hand HP Pavilion dv7 2215sa, I restored it and loaded in okay but when I go online it takes ages to load in web pages and sometimes it only loads in so much and then just sits there, it loaded in windows updates but it was ages and I know they aren't done but it just keeps looking for them, I know it isn't a big power machine but it was the screen size I went for so I can watch dvd's on it. I have bought a Crucial bx200 ssd for it will that help.

these are the cards that are supposed to be in it.

Couple of things.

First, I'm almost positive that model of laptop was part of the big HP recall. The cooling was sub-par and the chipset had the problem with the solder failing due to heat.

Second, the WIFI starting to fail was an early sign that the laptop was close to dying.

So with that really it's not worth doing anything to it. I'll just use the ssd in the desktop.

Neither of these are makes or models of card

It may be irrelevant, as other posters have suggested that it's either toast or just use the LAN port, but these are the actual network adapters in the card:

Wireless: Broadcom OR Intel PRO Set
LAN: Realtek GBE

Firstly it's only b/g, so it is going to be slow, and useless if you move away from the router.
Secondly I think Microsoft has intentionally done something to slow down updates for older Operating Systems like 7 in an effort to force us to upgrade to 10, as one of my laptops which was fast is now painfully slow in searching for and downloading them. This has only happened recently and only with updates, I literally walked away and left it searching for half an hour before it returned a list to install.

Hi I tried wired and it was just as slow I had to download the latest BIOS from my desktop, the laptop was trying to load the HP support page, I couldn't even load in speed test, the wireless and LAN are broadcm and realtek, plus it gets really hot so I don't think I will spend anymore time on it. Thanks for all the advice.

A SSD will help it to keep much cooler \ and snappier all so turning the CPU boost off will all so help to.

And if you have a laptop cooler hanging around try that.

I am just saying if cooling it down without adding more cost helps the wired connection or\and even trying other drivers for the network adapter.

Just some thing i would try to solve while watching some TV

The DV6/7 series did have motherboard issues but from what he said this wouldn't be that problem. The ones that had the failing wifi would still work fine with the LAN port.

My guess is the hard drive is going. Does it take a long time to load Windows or start programs or is it just internet related stuff that's slow.

If it is getting really hot it has the typical HP overheating issues.
You might need to reapply TIM to the CPU and replace the fan as well as give it a good clean out.
Heat will make it throttle down the speed.

Well it has 4gb of ram and a slow c2d based pent-up dual core. I don't know what you expect but speed shouldn't be it. Especially if you just did a restore and it's full of all the hp crap.

HP is infamous for providing crap wifi cards, while having the most narrow bios/efi whitelist ever. For my 2000-412NR they only whitelisted a grand total of 5 cards, which are only availble for voyager probe into space creek pricing compared to the very affordable intel 7260...

My RA-Link that came with my HP is utter crap and only likes certain Broadcom and Marvell chips... It's so iffy with Atheros and wants to kill the Realtek CEO...
