    Wait, what?
As in Ati+Nvidia? or as in Crossfire?

You can certainly do Crossfire but, with that 750w I think getting 4 4870's is pushing it.

I was assuming that he is using a 4870x2, my bad. In which case its going to be fine running off that PSU.

I think he's saying hybrid crossfire: onboard for idle and 4870s for intensive tasks.
If that is the case, I believe the answer is no, because you'd need a graphics card that is in the same class as your onboard GPU for hybrid graphics. Don't quote me on that though.

What the heck would be hybrid about that, and how would you manage to have a video card in the same class as an onboard gpu?

Here is what the mb spec's say...don't know where you go to find compatability tho...

    "ATI Hybrid Graphics Technology Support
Based on ATI CrossFireX multi-GPU technology, ATI Hybrid Graphics allows you to combine the performance of the HD4200 integrated GPU with an applicable ATI Radeon graphics card to bring enhanced gaming performance, productivity and power efficiency."

I get conflicting google reports on it, but I doubt you will do any harm trying...it will either work or it won't. :)

    From the Gigabyte mobo specs.

    ATI Hybrid Graphics Technology support
ATI Hybrid Graphics is a technology umbrella brand encompassing several technologies, such as ATI Hybrid CrossFireX™, ATI SurroundView™, ATI PowerPlay™, etc. that allow both an AMD integrated graphics processor and a discrete graphics processor to work co-operatively on an AMD based system to provide enhanced gaming performance, productivity and platform efficiency to the mainstream PC.
    * Please use ATI Hybrid CrossFireX certified DX11 VGA card (i.e., ATI Radeon HD 5450, etc.), detail information please refer to AMD website.

    I haven't found any yet.

i dont think you can... 4870 is too powerful....

you would need a really weak card such as the 5450 to do it.

I believe that what's hybrid about it is that the discrete gpu is disabled during low load, then when the load increases crossfire is enabled, giving extra performance.

According to that info, it seems you need at least a HD5400 card, but I'm not sure if it has to be as specific as a HD5450 exactly.r

EDIT: I don't know where you got that information, but according to what I see, the 890GX has HD4290 graphics, meaning you can only use HD4200 card(s) in hybrid crossfire on the motherboard. You will only be able to use your 2xHD4870 in regular crossfire w/ your onboard GPU disabled.

by the looks of it I can't with the 4870x2, I am waiting to see the specs and the price of the 6970 and if to pricey the 5870 looks pretty good but will i be dropping in power.

what ever is onboard of your mobo if enabled will SLOW down the 4870X2...best to run the 4870x2 by its self or with another 4870 or 4870x2:toast:

wiki link by inferKNOX states the IGP of an 8xx chipset pairs with 5450, so I think it isn't even possible to have your 4870x2 CF'ing with the IGP (unless there is some mod to do so, but even then that will be pointless at best as others have pointed out)

Still unsure as to which "applicable" discrete card would max out the potential of the Hybrid igp; has anyone here decided on this? I merely want to make the most of what i have now. Thanks

It doesn't work. You need a specific video card for it to work.

    Hybrid CrossFire only works with:

    790GX
    780G
    780V
    760G

    and a 3450 or 3470 graphics card.

*It may or may not work with an 8xx series chipset and the above video cards. Most likely not as AMD seems to have ditched this.
