:banghead: I have downloaded intel hyper-threading utility test, which tests processor, chipset and bios. it passes processor and bios test, but not the chipset test. Hyper-threading is enabled in bios, and running windows XP proffesional. The motherboard is ATI RADEON X300 based 2D/3D graphics PCI EXpress and Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHZ CPU 800FSB.
Any ideas what could be wrong?

Why get a new videocard? If he never does graphical things his videocard is just fine.

What is this test utility you're talking about? Never heard of it, could you give a link to it?

hyper

Well the computer is brand new, and I have put XP as well as drivers for the motherboard which came on the disc. Except for direct x, as it's a bit large so need time to download.
The link to intel site for hyper-threading utility is
http://support.intel.com/support/processors/tools/htu/

The only other thing would be also that the test is designed if all of the components are from intel, and the motherboard is ECS RS400-A. Even though it supports hyper-threading chipset might not be tested by this utility.

Bah, the damn utility doesn't support my operating system and there is no Windows 2003 specific version :(
I guess somebody else has to check what exactly it does and why it may fail.

done direct x, and it says TWO. So it must be only intelov test. If you don't have intel products it won't work.

:toast: I have checked, and as my motherboard is not made by intel so too the test utility doesn't work as it is intel's utility. But I got directX and it found two processors, as well as in the system when looked in processors it says two. So everything is fine:D The utility works only with intel components. So if you have for example an AMD processor it ain't gonna work.

I have a P4 530 and it supports hyperthreading, I dont know which ones dont support hyperthreading at the moment. The P4 5xx dosent have EM64T if you mixed that up.

Well now that I look at it more closely, its a mixed bag. Some have hyperthreading, some dont. I assumed all didnt based on the 506 (which my friend has)

Maybe it isnt enabled somewhere in your bios?

If you buy separately then you have to check whether it supports hyperthreading. Like on my boz which says Pentium 4 processor supporting hyperthreading technology. But having that still won't give you hyperthreading unless you have a motherboard with hyperthreading too. In the system check processors, if it says two, then you have hyperthreading, if not and you know you have it, then needs to be enabled in bios

Actually some 500 series pentium 4's have em64t like the lga775 541 for example.
