Friends, i am after some advice from anyone with woodworking and case building skills.

I make stuff from timber and a lot of stuff in my house is made from wood, quite a bit of it made by me.

I got hold of some gorgeous Canadian Maple flooring from a sprung dance floor from the 50's.
The strips are long and 50mm wide by 20mm deep.

i redid all of our kitchen units and they look fantastic, the grain of the wood looks lovely

I enjoy building pcs and i think i could do a good job of making a nice case.

Ive got all the bits including a Shuttle PSU

So my questions are

1. Do i need a MOBO backplate ? or what safe alternatives could i consider. (earthing etc)

2. Is heat going to cause problems ? I only want one visible fan and i am inclined to use this PS3 one

It probably wont be too efficient but i like the look of wood and metal not wood and plastic.

3. The MOBO is a Gigabyte GA h 61 m ds 2 and is socket 1155 so i am also considering ditching the shitty gpu ( 9500 gtx i think ) and getting a 1155 chip with hd onboard, any suggestions ?

This would make the whole case narrower and consequently easier/ quicker to build.

Any thoughts or experience that you could share would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Or maybe just modify this french wine box

Clear perspex though and some snazzy lights inside. all that is a long way off.

Having a rethink as i have 2 people interested in buying this ,both of whom are quite posh !!

This wood is Sweet Chestnut

An antique look for a library in a private home ?

The wood is only sealed at the moment, i have a coloured polish which should bring the colours to a match.

Im thinking of putting the switch where the front door is.

One of the potential buyers has small kids so im probably going to stay with the Intel chip and rely on the onchip graphics.

Plenty more to do on the outside and on the inside.

Front is

330mm x 200mm

and its 300mm deep

Plenty of room for fans and venting at the back.

looks ok with a screen on, nice size. I like it.
