Dude, even my Audigy 2 seems like a night and day difference between it and onboard sound.

I think there was a problem with Vista and Creative Labs cards tending to make crackling noises. I don't know if this was fixed (I think it was), but you should look into it and make sure you have the latest drivers that could fix this issue.

    It was.

They also had a problem with X-Fi and 4GB of RAM. That too was fixed.

I love the "actual" 5.1 sound this card puts out compared to my Audigy 2ZS that just never seemed to work right for me. The only gripe i've really had with the X-fi's is the Mode options you have to select. Example: I want to play a game so I open up the Audio console and switch to game, close out, then open up which game I am going to play. After I'm done and say the girlfriend and I want to watch a movie I open audio console backup, click over to Entertainment mode, close it out, and then open up WinDVD. Beside this little issue the sound and clarity in games and movies, to me, is AWESOME!!
