Ok, first of all i'd like to say i'm new here, so cheers everyone Second, I know there are probably no futurology experts around here, so probably all i'm gonna get are hypothetical answers. to put it bluntly, how long do you think a dual core processor (especially an Intel E8400, the CPU I own) will be able to keep up with gaming demands in the future? this question may seem weird, but with all the rage about Core i7 everywhere, I feel Dual Core CPUs are being a little left behind... but that's not the point. I might seem like I'm a little worried, and you could say that because I bought my new PC back in October, it's just over a month old, and I chose to go with Core 2 Duo mainly for 2 reasons: 1- Mature technology, all bugs removed, improved revisions, etc. 2- Proven performance and overclockability. I don't upgrade that often, and ideally my builds last at least 3 years. This one is no expection: I really wanted this build to last at least until late 2010 or early 2011. The only thing I see myself upgrading in that time is the GPU. So the bottom line is this: provided I keep up-to-date with a decent GPU, could my E8400 (or any decent Dual Core CPU) keep up with gaming for the next 3 or so years?
