So there is a game that on Win7 would normally kick my laptop to 100c within seconds, even with the clocks and voltages lowered. Well trying out Win8.1 I let the clocks/voltages go max and max is 94c WITH a browser compared to only the game on Win7. Maybe Win8.1 handles programs better?

    Two possible explanations:

Windows 8.1 has many fewer transparency (Aero) effects for the GPU to render compared to Windows 7.
Windows 8.1 has WDDM 1.3 which contains performance improvements over WDDM 1.1 in Windows 7.

    RCoon and Lightbulbie say thanks.

    This.

When streaming on Win7, I turn off Aero and magically my stream becomes smoother because Aero is destroying one core.

In the end if you are happy, what matter if it call it 7 or 8...I usually disable Aero on any machine...
