I got home today and opened up the mail and got the electric bill, and your not gonna beleive this, my electric bill was 1017 DOLLARS FOR 1 MONTH. Now I am thinking that either the guy came out and read the meter wrong or my neighbor who moved in a month ago almost is stealing my electricity, ever since he moved in I have been having electrical problems and my house and his house used to be owned by an old woman and the man who took care of her, the man lived in my house and the woman lived in his. He also put a ridiculous amount of stuff in his basement, I mean its lit up like a christmas tree down their 24/7.

What a bad day this turned out to be.

He's growin' weed down there! Those Sodium lamps suck a LOT of juice, not to mention the fans/filters and whatever timers he has set up!

Either tell him to hook you up, BIG TIME...or you're callin' the cops!

Are they growing pot next door?

I mean how do you run up a bill that high?

I would call them up and tell them to re-read the meter because there is no way that it should be that high. Tell them to look at your normal monthly bill.

Edit: Dr. thought the same thing at first LOL.

If he is he must have one hell of a setup. I don't see one bulb doing that much damage, and it one light would grow quite a bit of pot.

That would be a big setup... even after factoring two household's normal consumption.

Four 1K's, pumps, etc, about $200/month.

Maybe they don't know that they are stealing it IF THEY ARE. Maybe when it was owned by the last people like you said they wired it up between houses.

If you've got your reflectors set-up properly....
Sounds like some amature who lucked into a house with a huge basement, bought all the gear he could and slapped it up to get in business pronto.

He'll be busted in another month anyway. He's the kind of dingleberry that will start having people over to see his grow room, they'll ask for some, he'll refuse, they'll get pissed and call the cops on him for being a stingy idiot!

    End of story...

Wha? You guys don't think his new nieghbor is just a Christmas afficianado? He could have the motherload of Christmas displays down there! It sucks that all of the sweet mary jane is going to go to waste... but call the cops on the electricity stealing cocksucker, there is no excuse for that. I feel that a man can and should do anything they want in thier home, but stealing is wrong. Or.. tell Mr. Grass that the electricity bill will cost him $5000.00 minimum, and to stop stealing your electricity immediately. Plus, for all you know, the cops have already targeted you for the unusual spike in electrical usage.

Nice. Last time I checked on LED's the price was sky high...

But after your post I started Googling: http://www.hydroponicsfarming.com/product-612.html

    80w, 3x3 coverage, blue/red mix - the $200-$300 premium over a 400w HPS/MH kit seems to be justified.

 This went from a stolen electricity thread, to a pot growing thread.

Anyway, I agree that's a hell of a lot of grow lights for a $1000 electric bill.

Yep, that's what I also thought when reading his post. But he probably doesn't know what he is doing. A 100W lamp can grow 16 plants with ease, so I wonder how many the sucker really has? I bet it's a forest down there...

Could be that years ago the houses were connected and his basement power is on your power meter/line. Not common ,but it happened to my cousin when he moved into a house once. Turned out his Kitchen was using power from next door.

"Grow houses" are the latest craze. Does sound like he's got herb in the basement growing, that's a lot of juice. I would be cautious how you approach the subject, like maybe get the power company out to check it out because of that huge bill! You never know anymore, that guy could be connected with some not so nice people!

IDK - that seems quite a heavey electric bill for pot . . . even compared to this region where we've had some of the largest pot growing operations get busted every couple of years . . .

    I mean - you'd have to have a serious setup . . . lamps, conveyors, humidifiers, etc. . .

another possibility is a meth lab, which would easily fit into that power bill . . .

or . . . your neighbor has some super mean, kick-ass gaming rigs running all day long

Best way to find out they're stealing your electricity for sure: Ask your power distributor to turn off your power, if theirs turns off too, its established they're stealing your power. Second thing to do: Rent a welding machine, run it without the choke while turning off every appliance in your house. The appliances that they're running on your power line will go bust due to massive power surges.
